Conwy Tunnel Closed in Both Directions/Twnnel Conwy ar gau i'r ddau gyfeiriad

This morning, motorists travelling on the A55 are facing severe delays and congestion due to Conwy tunnel being closed in both directions. The closure has been in place since 08:30am.

Traffic is queuing back to Penmaenmawr in eastbound lanes of the A55. In westbound lanes, traffic goes back to Colwyn Bay, and Llandudno Junction is gridlocked due to traffic leaving the A55. Currently the Inrix traffic monitoring service is reporting that the Conwy Tunnel is closed for emergency repairs.

There is also a severe impact on the A470 with northbound traffic queuing into Glan Conwy.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy commented:

“The A55 Conwy Tunnel is a vital transport artery for North West Wales, so the traffic chaos caused with its closure is unsurprising.

“I have every confidence that the Traffic Wales team are using all the levers at their disposal to identify the cause of the problems and deliver a solution.

“We can all help them and all communities on the diversion route by only travelling if totally necessary.”

Y bore ’ma, mae modurwyr sy'n teithio ar yr A55 yn wynebu oedi a thagfeydd difrifol gan fod Twnnel Conwy ar gau i'r ddau gyfeiriad. Mae’r twnnel ar gau ers 8.30yb.

Mae traffig yn ciwio'n ôl i Benmaenmawr ar lonydd tua'r dwyrain ar yr A55. Ar lonydd tua'r gorllewin, mae traffig yn mynd yn ôl mor bell â Bae Colwyn, ac mae Cyffordd Llandudno wedi dod i stop oherwydd traffig sy'n gadael yr A55. Ar hyn o bryd mae gwasanaeth monitro traffig Inrix yn dweud bod Twnnel Conwy ar gau ar gyfer gwaith trwsio brys.

Mae'n cael effaith ddifrifol ar yr A470 hefyd gyda thraffig tua'r gogledd yn ciwio yng Nglan Conwy.

Dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy:

“Mae Twnnel Conwy ar yr A55 yn llwybr trafnidiaeth hollbwysig i'r Gogledd-orllewin, felly dyw'r anhrefn traffig a achoswyd gan y cau ddim yn syndod o gwbl.

“Mae gen i bob hyder bod tîm Traffig Cymru yn gwneud popeth o fewn eu gallu i nodi achos y problemau a’u datrys.

“Gallwn ni i gyd eu helpu nhw a'r holl gymunedau ar hyd y llwybr trwy osgoi teithio oni bai bod hynny'n gwbl angenrheidiol.”
