Yesterday the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS, announced that the Welsh Conservatives would take 1p off the basic rate of income tax in Wales, if they win the 2026 Senedd election.

This will be a tax cut for 1.7 million people, leaving the average working family £450 per year better off, giving them more autonomy of where to spend their hard-earned money.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, welcomed this pledge, as it is by having greater freedom on where people spend their own money, that really helps to boost the Welsh economy.

Commenting on the announcement, Janet said:

“The reduction of 1p from the basic rate of income tax in Wales will really go towards strengthening the Welsh economy and supporting hard working residents as it will give people freedom to use more of their money as they think best.

“This is a welcome pledge following the hardships that many are facing because of the UK Labour Government. The cost of energy is up, the cost of water is up, council tax is up, and so much more. It is time that the Welsh Government helped by brining the tax burden down.

“The days of paying more tax for less services and poor governance of Wales and the UK must end”.

Ddoe, cyhoeddodd Arweinydd y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig, Darren Millar AS, y byddai'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn tynnu 1c oddi ar y gyfradd sylfaenol o dreth incwm yng Nghymru, os ydyn nhw'n ennill etholiad y Senedd yn 2026.

Bydd hwn yn doriad treth i 1.7 miliwn o bobl, sy’n golygu y byddai’r teulu gweithio cyfartalog ar eu hennill o £450 y flwyddyn, gan roi mwy o ymreolaeth iddynt o ble i wario eu harian y maen nhw wedi gweithio mor galed i’w ennill.

Croesawodd Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yr addewid hwn, gan fod cael mwy o ryddid o ran ble mae pobl yn gwario eu harian yn helpu i roi hwb i economi Cymru.

Wrth sôn am y cyhoeddiad, dywedodd Janet:

"Bydd y gostyngiad o 1c o'r gyfradd sylfaenol o dreth incwm yng Nghymru yn mynd tuag at gryfhau economi Cymru a chefnogi trigolion sy'n gweithio'n galed gan y bydd yn rhoi rhyddid i bobl ddefnyddio mwy o'u harian fel y maen nhw'n gweld orau.

"Mae hwn yn addewid i'w groesawu yn dilyn y caledi y mae llawer yn ei wynebu oherwydd Llywodraeth Lafur y DU. Mae costau ynni wedi codi, cost dŵr wedi codi, mae'r dreth gyngor wedi codi, a llawer mwy. Mae'n bryd i Lywodraeth Cymru helpu drwy leihau'r baich treth.

"Mae'n rhaid i'r dyddiau o dalu mwy o dreth am lai o wasanaethau a llywodraethu gwael yng Nghymru a'r DU ddod i ben".
