Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has reiterated her calls for pro-growth policies from both the Welsh and UK governments.

This follows the news that the pound has fallen to its lowest level in over a year, while UK borrowing costs hit their highest for 16 years. This is in addition to:

  • The Bank of England announcing that UK interest rates will remain at 4.75%;
  • The British Chambers of Commerce revealing statistics highlighting the severe impact of the Chancellor’s tax hikes on businesses nationwide;
  • The UK's manufacturing sector facing its steepest downturn in nearly a year.

Commenting on the state of the Welsh and UK economy, Janet said:

“Higher debt and lower growth are causing real concerns among the public, among businesses and in the markets.

“Both the Welsh and UK governments need to boost confidence in the Welsh and British economies. The way to do that is by having pro-growth policies.

“During the last General Election the Labour party made clear in their manifesto that their first step for change would be ‘1. Deliver economic stability with tough spending rules, so we can grow our economy and keep taxes, inflation and mortgages as low as possible’.

“Rather than economic stability, what we have is, as Andrew Bailey said, ‘heightened uncertainty’.

“The future of family farms here in Aberconwy have been completely undermined by the disastrous changes to inheritance tax rules.

“Businesses are being affected by the increase in employers National Insurance.

“We have a hospitality sector suffering not only because of the reduced business rate relief, but further penalising policies coming down the line from the Welsh Government.

“And we have massive un-tapped economic potential in Wales through critical minerals and the green sector.

“I will continue to champion a stronger economy in Wales and the UK”.

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi ailadrodd ei galwadau am bolisïau o blaid twf gan lywodraethau Cymru a'r DU.

Daw hyn yn sgil y newyddion bod y bunt wedi gostwng i'w lefel hisaf ers dros flwyddyn, tra bod costau benthyca'r DU wedi cyrraedd eu huchaf ers 16 mlynedd. Mae hyn law yn llaw â’r canlynol:

  • Cyhoeddiad Banc Lloegr y bydd cyfraddau llog y DU yn parhau ar 4.75%;
  • Siambrau Masnach Prydain yn datgelu ystadegau sy'n amlygu effaith ddifrifol codiadau treth y Canghellor ar fusnesau ledled y wlad;
  • Sector gweithgynhyrchu'r DU yn wynebu'r dirywiad mwyaf sylweddol mewn bron i flwyddyn.

Wrth sôn am gyflwr economi Cymru a'r DU, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae dyled uwch a thwf is yn achosi pryderon go iawn ymhlith y cyhoedd, ymhlith busnesau ac yn y marchnadoedd.

"Mae angen i lywodraethau Cymru a'r DU roi hwb i’r hyder yn economïau Cymru a Phrydain. Polisïau o blaid twf yw’r ateb i hyn.

"Yn ystod yr Etholiad Cyffredinol diwethaf fe wnaeth y blaid Lafur yn glir yn eu maniffesto mai eu cam cyntaf dros newid fyddai “sicrhau sefydlogrwydd economaidd gyda rheolau gwariant heriol fel y gallwn dyfu ein heconomi a chadw trethi, chwyddiant a morgeisi mor isel â phosibl”.

"Yn hytrach na sefydlogrwydd economaidd, yr hyn sydd gennym, fel y dywedodd Andrew Bailey, yw 'ansicrwydd cynyddol'.

"Mae dyfodol ffermydd teuluol yma yn Aberconwy wedi cael eu tanseilio'n llwyr gan y newidiadau trychinebus i reolau treth etifeddiaeth.

"Mae busnesau yn cael eu heffeithio gan y cynnydd i Yswiriant Gwladol cyflogwyr.

"Mae gennym sector lletygarwch sy'n dioddef nid yn unig oherwydd y gostyngiad yn rhyddhad ardrethi busnes, ond hefyd yn sgil polisïau cosbol sydd ar ddod gan Lywodraeth Cymru.

"Ac mae gennym botensial economaidd enfawr heb ei gyffwrdd yng Nghymru, sef ein mwynau hanfodol a'r sector gwyrdd.

"Byddaf yn parhau i hyrwyddo economi gryfach yng Nghymru a'r DU".
