Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is outraged at the over $30,000 invoice for a meal at the New York Restaurant Zou Zou’s.

Following a request to the Welsh Government the invoice reveals that the 100 person dinner in March 2022 cost a total of $30,293.31, working out at around £240 per head.

The Welsh Government have previously said the visit to Zou Zou's was part of an event to promote Wales for St David's Day.

Having previously written on the story it now seems that the full invoice is much higher than the original £16,000 claimed, now standing at nearly £24,000.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“What on earth were the Welsh Government thinking. To be spending £24,000 on a meal to celebrate St David’s day in New York is a gross misuse of taxpayers money.

“We should be rightly outraged by this. Why on earth is the taxpayer footing the bill for a $30,000 meal at an upscale New York restaurant, where diners can indulge in $22 tuna tartare, $28 caramelised cabbage, or a $53 lobster kebab?

“When the Welsh Government are telling all of us that there’s no money in the kitty and cuts need to be made, they’re living it up in the Big Apple laughing at all of us.

“This is indicative on this Government, and indeed of the UK Labour Government. Even this week past, the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister Eluned Morgan refused to meet with our farmers to discuss Labour’s betrayal of our rural communities, instead deciding to party to D:Ream’s Things Can Only Get Better.

“It illustrates the utter disconnect between the ruling class and the workers, who they claim to champion. They are a wolf in sheep’s clothing and it is time we saw them for who they are.”

Notes

  1. Zou Zou’s Invoice attached

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn gandryll ar ôl gweld anfoneb o dros $30,000 am bryd ym mwyty Zou Zou’s yn Efrog Newydd.

Yn dilyn cais i Lywodraeth Cymru, mae'r anfoneb yn datgelu bod y cinio i 100 o bobl ym mis Mawrth 2022 wedi costio cyfanswm o $30,293.31, neu tua £240 y pen.

Dywedodd Llywodraeth Cymru o’r blaen bod yr ymweliad â Zou Zou yn rhan o ddigwyddiad hybu Cymru ar gyfer Dydd Gŵyl Dewi.

Mae'n ymddangos bellach bod yr anfoneb lawn yn llawer uwch na'r £16,000 gwreiddiol a honnwyd, a’i fod bellach yn bron i £24,000.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion dywedodd Janet:

“Beth ar y ddaear ddaeth dros Lywodraeth Cymru? Mae gwario £24,000 ar bryd o fwyd i ddathlu Dydd Gŵyl Dewi yn Efrog Newydd yn gamddefnydd dybryd o arian trethdalwyr.

"Mae'n warth o beth ac mae gennym hawl i fod yn gandryll am hyn. Pam ar y ddaear mae'r trethdalwr yn talu'r bil am bryd o fwyd $30,000 mewn bwyty swanc yn Efrog Newydd, lle gall pobl fwynhau tiwna tartare am $22, bresych wedi'i garamaleiddio am  $28, neu gebab cimwch am $53?

“Tra bod Llywodraeth Cymru yn dweud wrthym nad oes arian yn y banc a bod angen gwneud toriadau, maen nhw'n chwerthin am ein pennau ni i gyd wrth fwynhau yn ninas Efrog Newydd.

“Mae hyn yn nodweddiadol o'r Llywodraeth hon, ac yn wir hefyd am Lywodraeth Lafur y DU. Hyd yn oed yr wythnos diwethaf, gwrthododd Syr Keir Starmer a'r Prif Weinidog Eluned Morgan gyfarfod â'n ffermwyr i drafod brad Llafur o'n cymunedau gwledig, er mwyn mynd i barti a dawnsio i Things can only get better gan D:Ream.

“Mae'n dangos y datgysylltiad llwyr rhwng y dosbarth sy’n arwain y wlad a'r gweithwyr, er bod y Llywodraeth yn honni eu bod yn hyrwyddo buddiannau’r gweithwyr hynny. Blaidd mewn croen dafad ydyn nhw, ac mae'n hen bryd i ni sylweddoli hynny."
