Following the announcement by the Snowdonia National Park Authority that the facility located near the summit of Snowdon will be closed over the coming tourist season, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, Janet Finch-Saunders, has raised her concerns regarding this decision.

Commenting on the matter Janet said:

“The closure of this building will prevent residents and tourists who visit Snowdon from accessing public toilets, food or drink facilities, and on-site litter bins.

“Climbing and descending Snowdon can take some individuals several hours. Such a prolonged period without access to safe public toilets raises serious health concerns. Additionally, this closure may require climbers to make a difficult choice between staying hydrated and accessing a suitable rest room,  a decision that could have serious health implications.

“Furthermore, I am aware that our national park already faces a litter problem and without access to appropriate waste facilities at the summit this decision could further exacerbate the situation.

“This is why I have raised concerns with Mr Emyr Williams, Chief Executive of the Snowdonia National Park Authority. In my correspondence I have questioned why the decision has been made to close one of the leading destinations in all of Wales”.
