Welsh Government Increasing Pricing for NHS Dental Treatment / Llywodraeth Cymru yn codi prisiau triniaeth ddeintyddol y GIG

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is disappointed to learn that there will be huge increase to NHS dental charges in Aberconwy this financial year.

From April 2024, the three standard charges will increase to between £20 and a massive £260 depending on the treatment required, with urgent treatment set to increase to £30.

Currently, around 50% of people receive NHS dental treatment for free in Wales, however, the waiting list for NHS treatment is frustratingly long and in many cases getting an appointment is near impossible with many having to go private to receive treatment.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“Many people in Aberconwy are facing real hardship at the moment so this price increase is entirely unnecessary and unwelcome.

“On top of struggling to get NHS dental appointments, those lucky enough to be seen now have to consider the costs of care.

“This cannot be a sustainable way to run NHS dental services in Wales.  Aberconwy residents who already pay their taxes deserve better from the Welsh Government”.

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn siomedig o glywed y bydd cynnydd enfawr i ffioedd deintyddol y GIG yn Aberconwy y flwyddyn ariannol hon.

O fis Ebrill 2024, bydd y tair ffi safonol yn codi i rhwng £20 a £260, yn dibynnu ar y driniaeth sydd ei hangen, a bydd y ffi am driniaeth frys yn codi i £30.

Ar hyn o bryd, mae tua 50% o bobl yn derbyn triniaeth ddeintyddol y GIG am ddim yng Nghymru, ond mae'r rhestr aros am driniaeth y GIG yn rhwystredig o hir ac, mewn sawl achos, mae cael apwyntiad bron yn amhosib, gyda llawer yn gorfod mynd yn breifat i dderbyn triniaeth.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:

“Mae llawer o bobl Aberconwy yn wynebu caledi go iawn ar hyn o bryd, felly mae'r cynnydd hwn mewn prisiau yn gwbl ddiangen a digroeso.

“Ar ben y ffaith eu bod nhw'n ei chael hi'n anodd cael apwyntiadau deintyddol y GIG, rhaid i'r rhai sy'n ddigon ffodus i gael eu gweld ystyried costau gofal nawr hefyd.

“Ni all hon fod yn ffordd gynaliadwy o redeg gwasanaethau deintyddol y GIG yng Nghymru.  Mae trigolion Aberconwy sydd eisoes yn talu eu trethi yn haeddu gwell gan Lywodraeth Cymru”.
