The Welsh Government has announced that £2m from the Transforming Towns fund will be invested in Venue Cymru.

This latest investment builds on over £500,000 already provided by Welsh Government Transforming Towns fund in 2024–25, and the highly controversial £10m UK Government investment.

Commenting on the latest announcement of £2m, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:

“Pouring millions of tax payers money into Venue Cymru time and again shows how out of touch the Welsh Government, UK Government, and Conwy County Borough Council are with the needs of our communities.

“It is astonishing that even after over half a million of Transforming Towns money was invested last financial year, an even though around ten million from the UK Government is expected to be spent on the site also, that a further two million is being awarded from the Transforming Towns fund this year.

“There is absolutely no doubt that Venue Cymru is receiving far too much public money when there are other town centre projects that could benefit from investment, such as restoring sand on North Shore, creating coach parking bays in Llanrwst, supporting the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy, and making pay and display carparks free across Aberconwy.

“In fact, the Transforming Towns fund could even have been used to save Llandudno Library and stop the ridiculous scheme to move the centre to Venue Cymru!”

ENDS

Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi cyhoeddi y bydd £2m o'r gronfa Trawsnewid Trefi yn cael ei fuddsoddi yn Venue Cymru.

Mae'r buddsoddiad diweddaraf hwn ar ben dros £500,000 a ddarparwyd eisoes gan gronfa Trawsnewid Trefi Llywodraeth Cymru yn 2024–25, a'r buddsoddiad hynod ddadleuol o £10m gan Lywodraeth y DU.

Gan gyfeirio at y cyhoeddiad diweddaraf hwn, dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders AS:

"Mae taflu miliynau o arian trethdalwyr at Venue Cymru dro ar ôl tro yn dangos nad oes gan Lywodraeth Cymru, Llywodraeth y DU, a Chyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy syniad am anghenion ein cymunedau.

"Mae'n rhyfeddol, hyd yn oed ar ôl i dros hanner miliwn o arian Trawsnewid Trefi gael ei fuddsoddi'r flwyddyn ariannol ddiwethaf, ac er bod disgwyl i tua deg miliwn gan Lywodraeth y DU gael ei wario ar y safle hefyd, bod swm arall o ddwy filiwn yn cael ei ddyfarnu gan gronfa Trawsnewid Trefi eleni.

"Does dim dwywaith bod Venue Cymru yn derbyn llawer gormod o arian cyhoeddus pan fo prosiectau eraill yng nghanol y dref a allai elwa ar fuddsoddiad, megis adfer tywod ar Draeth y Gogledd, creu cilfachau parcio i fysiau yn Llanrwst, cefnogi'r Academi Frenhinol Gymreig yng Nghonwy, a gwneud meysydd parcio talu ac arddangos yn ddi-dâl ledled Aberconwy.

"Mewn gwirionedd, gellid bod wedi defnyddio'r gronfa Trawsnewid Trefi hyd yn oed i achub Llyfrgell Llandudno ac atal y cynllun hurt i symud y ganolfan i Venue Cymru!"
