Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy and Shadow Minister for Climate Change has visited the RSPB Dee Estuary - Point of Ayr.

The charity have been managing the site for almost forty years with the first hide being erected in front of the saltmarshes in 1988. The reserve’s star species are Curlews, Oystercatchers, Peregrine Falcons, Pintails and Black-tailed godwit.

After the visit, the Shadow Minister for Climate Change said:

“What a wonderful nature reserve we have here in North East Wales where avid birdwatchers can see all host of species throughout the year.

“In Spring, the reserve is a breeding site for ringed plovers and oystercatchers; the Summer sees sandwich and common terns feeding on the rich waters off shore; and Autumn and Winter sees a whole host of roosting birds.

“The work that the Site Manager Graham Jones and his team is truly exceptional.  The main objective of the reserve is to keep human disturbances to a minimum, which they do by patrolling the shore at high tide so that wader roosts are not disturbed.

“Without the hard work of Graham and the entire team, many of these birds would be disturbed and our biodiversity undermined”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o'r Senedd dros Aberconwy a Gweinidog Newid Hinsawdd yr Wrthblaid, wedi ymweld â Gwarchodfa Aber Afon Dyfrdwy yr RSPB – y Parlwr Du.

Mae’r elusen wedi bod yn rheoli’r safle ers bron i 40 mlynedd, a chodwyd y guddfan gyntaf o flaen y morfeydd heli ym 1988. Gylfinirod, piod môr, hebogiaid tramor, hwyaid llostfain a rhostogion cynffonddu yw prif rywogaethau’r warchodfa.

Ar ôl yr ymweliad, dywedodd Gweinidog Newid Hinsawdd yr Wrthblaid:

“Dyma warchodfa natur wych yn y gogledd ddwyrain, lle mae cyfle i wylwyr adar brwd weld pob math o rywogaethau drwy gydol y flwyddyn.

“Yn y gwanwyn, mae’r warchodfa yn safle bridio ar gyfer cwtiaid torchog a phiod môr; yn yr haf, mae môr-wenoliaid cyffredin a môr-wenoliaid pigddu yn bwydo ar y dyfroedd cyfoethog ger y glannau; ac mae’r hydref a’r gaeaf yn denu llu o wahanol adar i glwydo.

“Mae’r gwaith sy’n cael ei wneud gan reolwr y safle, Graham Jones, a’i dîm yn wirioneddol eithriadol. Prif amcan y warchodfa yw sicrhau cyn lleied ag sy’n bosib i darfu dynol, ac mae hynny’n digwydd drwy gadw golwg ar y glannau pan mae’r llanw i mewn fel nad oes unrhyw darfu ar glwydi rhydwyr.

“Heb waith caled Graham a’r tîm cyfan, byddai llawer o’r adar hyn yn dioddef tarfu a hynny yn ei dro yn tanseilio ein bioamrywiaeth”.
