Following the letter Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Bangor Conwy Môn, had written to the Chief Executive of the Post Office to express her deep concerns that the closure of the TG Jones store in Llandudno, the Post Office provided an update stating:

“ I appreciate the concerns you have raised about the impact that the planned closure of the TG Jones store may have on local residents, businesses and visitors who rely on Post Office services.

As outlined in correspondence published on our consultation hub - - Llandudno LL30 2NY - 678614 - Post Office - Citizen Space, TG Jones is undertaking a restructuring programme to stabilise its business, which has resulted in a number of store closures, including its branch in Llandudno. As the Post Office branch operates from within the store, the branch will also be required to close. While a confirmed closure date has not yet been provided, we currently anticipate this will take place in early 2027.

We fully recognise the vital role that Post Office services play in Llandudno. The branch provides important access to postal, banking and cash services, particularly for customers who prefer or depend upon face-to-face transactions. We also appreciate the branch's importance to local businesses and understand concerns about maintaining provision in the town centre.

I would like to reassure you that Post Office remains committed to restoring services in Llandudno as quickly as possible following the closure. We have already begun the process of identifying a replacement operator and invited expressions of interest from prospective retailers. I am pleased to confirm that we have received interest from potential applicants and will shortly be reviewing these submissions with a view to progressing discussions and securing a new branch for the area.

While it would be premature to comment on potential locations or operators at this stage, we recognise the importance of maintaining convenient access to services and will seek to provide a solution that best meets the needs of the local community. We are actively exploring options to minimise any gap in service provision wherever possible.

We understand that customers may need to use alternative branches for a period following closure. When a confirmed closure date becomes available, customers will be advised of the nearest alternative branches and the services they offer. Information on alternative branches can also be accessed through our Branch Finder | Post Office. The nearest branches are:

  • West Shore Post Office - approximately 0.7 miles away
  • Conway Road Post Office - approximately 3.4 miles away

We also recognise the concerns regarding staff affected by the store closure. As matters relating to employment sit with TG Jones, any decisions regarding staffing arrangements are the responsibility of the retailer.

We appreciate the strength of feeling within the community and welcome your support in helping secure the future of Post Office services in Llandudno. We remain committed to keeping local stakeholders informed and will provide further updates through our consultation hub and directly to elected representatives as developments progress."

Janet commented:

“Firstly, I would like to express my sympathies to the staff currently at the TG Jones Post Office, they are extremely hardworking and a brilliant team.

“I am delighted to learn of the steps that the Post Office are taking to restore services in Llandudno, and that the process is already underway. It is essential that we have a fully operational branch in the centre of Llandudno as residents, and businesses alike rely heavily on this service.

“Please be assured that I will continue to call on and work with the Post Office to ensure that this service is relocated and restored as soon as possible, and I will be raising these points and concerns during my meeting with Post Office officials this Friday.”
