Last week, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the introduction of digital ID cards, which will serve as a way for people to prove their identity to employers, landlords, and when accessing welfare and other benefits.
Since then, a petition against the introduction of digital ID cards has gathered over 2,667,767 signatures, including 4,184 from residents in Bangor Aberconwy.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has raised concerns about the proposal.
Commenting on the petition, Janet said:
“In the constituency of Bangor Aberconwy, more than 4,000 people have signed the petition opposing the introduction of digital ID cards, with around 30,000 signatures collected across the whole of North Wales.
“This is a clear message from the residents of Aberconwy, and the UK as a whole, that there are serious and genuine concerns about the introduction of mandatory digital IDs. These voices need to be listened to and acknowledged by the UK Government. Greater clarity is also needed from the Welsh Government on how this will affect devolved processes.”

Yr wythnos diwethaf, cyhoeddodd y Prif Weinidog Keir Starmer ei fod am gyflwyno cardiau adnabod digidol, a fydd yn ffordd i bobl brofi pwy ydyn nhw i gyflogwyr, landlordiaid ac wrth gael mynediad at fudd-daliadau lles a budd-daliadau eraill.
Ers hynny, mae deiseb yn erbyn cyflwyno cardiau adnabod digidol wedi casglu dros 2,667,767 o lofnodion, gan gynnwys 4,184 gan drigolion Bangor Aberconwy.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi codi pryderon am y cynnig.
Wrth sôn am y ddeiseb, dywedodd Janet:
"Yn etholaeth Bangor Aberconwy, mae mwy na 4,000 o bobl wedi llofnodi'r ddeiseb yn gwrthwynebu cyflwyno cardiau adnabod digidol, gyda thua 30,000 o lofnodion wedi'u casglu ar draws y Gogledd.
"Mae hon yn neges glir gan drigolion Aberconwy, a'r DU gyfan, fod pryderon difrifol a gwirioneddol ynglŷn â chyflwyno cardiau adnabod digidol gorfodol. Mae angen i Lywodraeth y DU wrando ar y lleisiau hyn a'u cydnabod. Mae angen mwy o eglurder hefyd gan Lywodraeth Cymru ar sut y bydd hyn yn effeithio ar brosesau datganoledig."
"I lofnodi'r ddeiseb, dilynwch y ddolen hon https://www.janetfinchsaunders.org.uk/news/petition-against-introductio… ".
