“Keep Cwm Penmachno Connected”

A campaign is underway to save a phone box in a valley and community with no mobile phone signal.  Janet Finch-Saunders, Assembly Member for Aberconwy, has put her weight behind the calls of local residents and is challenging BT to “keep Cwm Penmachno Connected”.

The facility BT are understood to want to close is situated at the end of the Machno Valley, by Machno Terrace, and directly opposite Glanaber Terrace, Cwm Penmachno.

Commenting on the situation, Janet said:

“So many of us don’t have to think twice about using a mobile or landline, but this is not so in Cwm Penmachno.

“I know first-hand that the community has no mobile connectivity, and have been advised that there are some premises without a landline.

“Clearly, the rural community has a real need for its phone box.

“This is supported by the fact that the community has become increasingly popular with visitors as a walking destination and the home of Go Below, most of whom will be unaware of Cwm’s calling conundrum before arriving.

“It is clear to me that should an emergency arise the phone box could help save lives.

“I will not stand by and see a community threatened with isolation, so have challenged BT to keep Cwm Penmachno connected”
