Fresh concerns have been raised about patient care at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd who recently remained in special measures following coverage on ITV Wales News, highlighting the ongoing corridor care crisis and overcrowding in the hospital’s emergency department.
The latest reports have once again brought to light distressing scenes of patients being treated in inappropriate settings, raising serious questions about patient dignity, safety and the ongoing pressures facing frontline NHS staff.
Janet Finch-Saunders MS invited the First Minister Eluned Morgan to visit Ysbyty Glan Clwyd alongside her visit to Llandudno hospital but the First Minister declined. Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar has also called for the First Minister to apologise to all the patients waiting for treatment in horrendous conditions and the staff who have been pushed to breaking point.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Aberconwy said:
“What we have seen in the emergency departments at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and across Wales is completely unacceptable. Patients are being treated in corridors, without dignity, and frontline staff are being pushed to breaking point.
Following the latest ITV Wales report, it is clear that the situation is not improving, in fact it is getting worse and it is simply not good enough.
I am deeply disappointed that the First Minister decided not to visit Ysbyty Glan Clwyd alongside her trip to Llandudno hospital, at a time where an obvious crisis is happening in emergency departments, leadership and accountability are needed more than ever.
We now must recognise this for what it is, a health emergency, and respond with the urgency and seriousness it deserves.”
