This Sunday marked Trafalgar Sunday, which celebrates the victory of Lord Nelson’s fleet over the combined Spanish and French forces at the Battle of Trafalgar. It also offers us an opportunity to remember those who lost their lives at sea during times of war and peace.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, attended the parade and noted:

“I was delighted to attend the Trafalgar Sunday Commemorative event. It was a beautiful service with a brilliant turnout.

“I would like to thank all those involved in organising and ensuring that this poignant event ran so successfully. The amount of time and effort that went into organising it was clear to see.

“It is important that we use commemoration events like this to remember the vital role the Maritime Forces play in our nation’s security, as well as to honour all the brave servicemen and women who have lost their lives at sea protecting the freedoms we enjoy. We must also extend our gratitude to those currently serving.”

Dydd Sul diwethaf oedd Sul Trafalgar, sy’n dathlu buddugoliaeth llynges yr Arglwydd Nelson dros luoedd cyfunol Sbaen a Ffrainc ym Mrwydr Trafalgar. Mae hefyd yn cynnig cyfle i ni gofio’r rhai a gollodd eu bywydau ar y môr yn ystod cyfnod o ryfel a heddwch.

Ymunodd Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, â’r orymdaith a dywedodd:

“Roeddwn i’n falch iawn o fod yn rhan o ddigwyddiad Coffáu Sul Trafalgar. Roedd yn wasanaeth hyfryd gyda thorf deilwng.

“Hoffwn ddiolch i bawb sy’n ymwneud â’r trefnu a sicrhau bod y digwyddiad ingol hwn yn cael ei gynnal mor llwyddiannus. Roedd hi’n amlwg bod llawer o amser ac ymdrech wedi mynd i mewn i’w drefnu.

“Mae’n bwysig ein bod yn defnyddio digwyddiadau coffa fel hyn i gofio’r rôl hanfodol y mae’r Lluoedd Morwrol yn ei chwarae yn niogelwch ein gwlad, yn ogystal ag i anrhydeddu holl aelodau’r lluoedd dewr sydd wedi colli eu bywydau ar y môr yn amddiffyn y rhyddid rydyn ni’n ei fwynhau. Rhaid i ni hefyd ddiolch i’r rhai sy’n gwasanaethu ar hyn o bryd.”
