Following many approaches from constituents and patients attending Ysbyty Gwynedd, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Bangor, Conwy and Môn is taking action to stop the ensuing chaos on parking at this hospital.
Janet Finch-Saunders MS, has previously campaigned to try and save the park and ride at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, and has called for Cyngor Gwynedd and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to work together to increase parking provision, and for parking wardens to stop enforcing until the provision is increased.
Janet commented:
“I am deeply concerned by the number of constituents approaching me for support after receiving a parking fine for where they parked at Ysbyty Gwynedd. These fines are being issued to patients who are driving around countless times trying to find a space, while their appointment time, which, for many, comes after a long wait, is approaching. This only adds to their stress levels, leaving them feeling forced to park in inappropriate places.
She added:
“Drivers would park in designated bays if they were available, yet demand often goes beyond the supply of parking spaces. It is completely unacceptable that parking fines are being issued when it is obvious that there are not enough spaces to meet demand.
Janet continued:
“Making money from patients who are attending hospital is morally wrong, and I will be calling on Cyngor Gwynedd to waive some of the fines, depending on the individual circumstances.”
