Janet Finch-Saunders MS was delighted to attend Speech Day at St David’s College, Llandudno, last Friday, where pupils’ achievements were celebrated in front of families, staff and guests.

The event showcased the outstanding academic, sporting and personal accomplishments of students throughout the year, with a range of awards recognising their hard work, dedication and contribution to school life. Janet Finch-Saunders also praised the commitment of the teaching staff and the positive environment that continues to help young people thrive.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Bangor Conwy Môn said:

“It was a real pleasure to attend Speech Day at St David’s College and to see first-hand the incredible achievements of the pupils. The standard of the awards presented was outstanding and reflected the hard work, talent and determination of so many young people.

St David’s College continues to provide an excellent education and it was wonderful to see pupils being recognised for their success across so many different areas. They, along with the dedicated staff, should be immensely proud of everything they have achieved.

At the same time, it is impossible to ignore the challenges facing independent education in North Wales. The recent closures of a number of private schools has been deeply disappointing, and Labour’s decision to impose VAT on independent school fees has only added further pressure on schools and families. We must ensure that parents continue to have genuine choice in their children’s education.”

Roedd Janet Finch-Saunders AS yn falch iawn o fynychu’r Diwrnod Areithiau yng Ngholeg Dewi Sant, Llandudno, ddydd Gwener diwethaf, lle dathlwyd cyflawniadau disgyblion yng nghwmni teuluoedd, staff a gwesteion.

Roedd y digwyddiad yn gyfle i arddangos cyflawniadau academaidd, chwaraeon a phersonol rhagorol myfyrwyr gydol y flwyddyn, gydag ystod o wobrau yn cydnabod eu gwaith caled, eu hymroddiad a'u cyfraniad i fywyd yr ysgol. Canmolodd Janet Finch-Saunders hefyd ymrwymiad y staff addysgu a'r amgylchedd cadarnhaol sy'n parhau i helpu pobl ifanc i ffynnu.

Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o'r Senedd Bangor Conwy Môn:

"Roedd hi’n bleser mawr mynychu’r Diwrnod Areithiau yng Ngholeg Dewi Sant a gweld â’m llygaid fy hun gyflawniadau anhygoel y disgyblion. Roedd safon y gwobrau a gyflwynwyd yn rhagorol ac yn adlewyrchu gwaith caled, talent a chymhelliant cynifer o bobl ifanc.

Mae Coleg Dewi Sant yn parhau i ddarparu addysg ardderchog ac roedd hi’n wych gweld disgyblion yn cael eu cydnabod am eu llwyddiant mewn cymaint o wahanol feysydd. Fe ddylen nhw, ynghyd â'r staff ymroddedig, fod yn hynod falch o’u holl gyflawniadau.

Ar yr un pryd, mae'n amhosibl anwybyddu'r heriau sy'n wynebu addysg annibynnol yn y Gogledd. Mae’r achosion diweddar o gau nifer o ysgolion preifat wedi bod yn siomedig iawn, ac mae penderfyniad Llafur i osod TAW ar ffioedd ysgolion annibynnol wedi ychwanegu pwysau pellach ar ysgolion a theuluoedd. Mae'n rhaid i ni sicrhau bod rhieni yn parhau i gael dewis go iawn yn addysg eu plant."
