Over 100 concerned residents attended the all party Menai Crossing meeting on Friday evening to share their views about the constant closures of the Menai Suspension Bridge.
Whilst some discussions were largely about likely solutions to stop the short term frequent closures of the bridge, it soon became very obvious that the longer term solution of a third crossing was the most favoured option.
Janet Finch-Saunders the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Bangor Conwy Môn, the organiser and Chair of the meeting invited other senior politicians that include Claire Hughes MP, Llinos Medi MP, Helen Jenner MS, and Mair Rowlands MS.
Statements read out by Janet were from the First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth MS, Cabinet Minister for Transport Mark Hooper MS, UK Highways A55 Limited, and the Road Haulage Association.
North Wales Police was also represented by Chief Inspector Jon Aspinall.
County Councillors for the area were also in attendance, and they along with the Members of Parliament and the Senedd thanked Janet for hosting and organising the meeting.
Following the meeting, Janet said:
“I would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to this important discussion. The views, concerns and ideas shared will help shape the next steps in addressing the challenges facing the Menai crossings.
“There was clear agreement that long-term solutions are needed. Residents and businesses deserve a strategic plan that improves resilience, reduces disruption and supports economic growth across North Wales
“At the end of the meeting, I asked those present whether they supported the construction of a third Menai crossing. The response was overwhelmingly positive. It is also important to note, how delighted residents were with the cross party positive approach taken, to delivering a solution for the Menai crossings.
“I look forward to working with residents, stakeholders, the First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Transport, Mark Hooper MS, to press the case for this vital piece of infrastructure and secure a lasting solution for the region.”
Mynychodd dros 100 o drigolion pryderus y cyfarfod trawsbleidiol ar Groesfan dros Afon Menai nos Wener i rannu eu barn am y ffaith bod Pont y Borth yn gorfod cau mor rheolaidd.
Er bod rhai trafodaethau yn bennaf am atebion tebygol i atal cau'r bont yn y tymor byr, daeth yn amlwg iawn yn fuan mai'r ateb tymor hwy o drydedd groesfan oedd yr opsiwn mwyaf ffafriol.
Fe wnaeth Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Bangor Conwy Môn, trefnydd a Chadeirydd y cyfarfod, wahodd uwch wleidyddion eraill gan gynnwys Claire Hughes AS, Llinos Medi AS, Helen Jenner AS a Mair Rowlands AS.
Darllenodd Janet ddatganiadau gan y Prif Weinidog Rhun ap Iorwerth AS, Gweinidog Trafnidiaeth y Cabinet Mark Hooper AS, UK Highways A55 Limited, a'r Gymdeithas Cludo ar y Ffyrdd.
Roedd y Prif Arolygydd Jon Aspinall yno hefyd, yn cynrychioli Heddlu Gogledd Cymru.
Roedd Cynghorwyr Sir yr ardal hefyd yn bresennol, ac fe wnaethon nhw, ynghyd â'r Aelodau Seneddol a'r Aelodau o’r Senedd, ddiolch i Janet am gynnal a threfnu'r cyfarfod.
Ar ôl y cyfarfod, dywedodd Janet:
"Hoffwn ddiolch i bawb a fynychodd ac a gyfrannodd at y drafodaeth bwysig hon. Bydd y safbwyntiau, y pryderon a'r syniadau a rannwyd yn helpu i lywio'r camau nesaf wrth fynd i'r afael â'r heriau sy'n wynebu’r croesfannau dros Afon Menai.
"Roedd cytundeb clir bod angen atebion hirdymor. Mae trigolion a busnesau yn haeddu cynllun strategol sy'n gwella gwydnwch, yn lleihau aflonyddwch ac yn cefnogi twf economaidd ledled y Gogledd.
"Ar ddiwedd y cyfarfod, gofynnais i'r rhai a oedd yn bresennol a oedden nhw’n cefnogi adeiladu trydedd bont y Fenai. Roedd yr ymateb yn hynod gadarnhaol. Mae hefyd yn bwysig nodi pa mor falch oedd trigolion gyda'r dull cadarnhaol trawsbleidiol a gymerwyd, i ddarparu ateb ar gyfer croesfannau dros Afon Menai.
"Edrychaf ymlaen at weithio gyda thrigolion, rhanddeiliaid, y Prif Weinidog a Gweinidog Trafnidiaeth y Cabinet, Mark Hooper AS, i ymgyrchu dros y darn hanfodol hwn o seilwaith a sicrhau ateb parhaol i'r rhanbarth."
