A horrific trend of accidents at the Junction 15 and 16 roundabouts will continue unless they are removed. Between 2021 and 2026, there were 13 collisions at Junction 15 (Llanfairfechan). Previous years also recorded an additional 10 injury accidents at Junction 16 (Penmaenmawr) and five at Junction 15.
The former Welsh Labour Government spent around £9 million undertaking a consultation on the removal of these roundabouts. During the consultation, it was shown that Conwy County Borough Council, along with the vast majority of respondents, supported the removal of these dangerous roundabouts.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Senedd for Bangor Conwy Môn, who has led calls for the roundabouts to be removed, commented:
“I call on the First Minister, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS, to commit to removing the Junction 15 and 16 roundabouts, as we have seen too many accidents take place there. Previous consultations demonstrated a clear desire from stakeholders and residents for them to be removed.
“The delay in their removal has allowed this pattern of injuries and accidents to continue. Urgent action must now be taken, and this must become a key priority for the new Plaid Cymru Welsh Government.”
