Janet Finch-Saunders Member of the Senedd for Aberconwy recently visited the site of the new active travel route linking from RSPB in Glan Conwy and Llandudno Junction to see first-hand the progress being made on the project.
The project has been in the works for over 20 years and once complete, it will provide a safe and accessible path for pedestrians, cyclists, wheelchair users and families with prams.
Considerable efforts have been made to ensure that local priorities remain at the forefront of the project. The work is being carried out by the Colwyn Bay–based firm Jennings Building and Civil Engineering Ltd, and materials have also been sourced locally where possible, including British steel and stone from Ruthin for the bridge.
The scheme will include a 3-metre-wide shared-used path, two new bridges crossing the Conwy Valley Railway Line and the Afon Ganol. The full project is expected to be completed by July 2026.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd Member for Aberconwy said:
“It was great to visit the site and see the progress being made on the important project connecting Glan Conwy and Llandudno Junction. Once completed, this route will provide a safe and accessible link for walkers, cyclists and families, while allowing people to enjoy one of the most scenic routes in Wales.
Improving local connectivity and providing safer routes for active travel is incredibly important for our communities, and it is encouraging to see the incredible work progressing well.”
