Residents, businesses and farmers in Penmachno are set to benefit from improved mobile phone connectivity following years of campaigning and close working with BT.
The rural community has long faced challenges with poor mobile coverage, impacting day-to-day life. Improved connectivity will now provide a significant boost for residents, particularly farmers, the elderly and those living and working in remote areas.
Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Senedd Member for Aberconwy, has campaigned on this issue for years, raising concerns directly with telecom providers and pressing the case for better rural connectivity. By working constructively with BT and campaigners, progress has now been delivered to the village.
Better mobile coverage will help farmers stay connected while working across large rural areas, improve access to emergency services, reduce isolation for elderly residents and support local businesses and families who rely on reliable communication.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Welsh Conservative Senedd Member for Aberconwy and Lead Senedd Candidate for Bangor, Conwy and Môn, said:
“I am delighted to see improved mobile connectivity finally delivered for Penmachno after years of campaigning on behalf of local residents. Reliable mobile coverage is not a luxury, it is essential for rural communities.
I have worked closely with Nick Speed and his team at BT over a long period to highlight the challenges faced here, and it is encouraging to see that work result in real improvements. This will make a genuine difference to everyday life, from supporting farmers and local businesses to helping older residents stay connected and safe.
Rural communities deserve the same standard of connectivity as anywhere else, and I will continue to push for improvements wherever they are needed.”
