Welsh Conservatives call on Conwy County Borough Council to invest in Llandudno / Y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn galw ar Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy i fuddsoddi yn Llandudno

Conwy County Borough Council have been offered funding through the UK Government’s Pride in Place Programme and Welsh Conservatives are calling for that funding to be spent in Llandudno.

The Programme will see up to £20 million invested into a “Neighbourhood” made up of “Lower Super Output Areas” (LSOAs) over a ten year period.  The Council had initially proposed to direct the investment to three LSOAs: Mostyn 2, Tudno 1 and Tudno 2.

Disappointingly, the Council’s Finance and Resources Overview and Scrutiny Committee voted against the investment being made in Llandudno.  This is despite cross-party support for a Welsh Conservative proposal to invest in a larger “Neighbourhood” in Llandudno made up of four LSOAs, so even more people in Llandudno could benefit from this funding.

The final decision on where to invest through the Pride in Place Programme will be made by the Council’s Cabinet later this week.

Janet Finch-Saunders, Welsh Conservative Senedd Member for Aberconwy and Lead Senedd Candidate for Bangor Conwy Môn, said:

“Although I had real concerns about the boundary of the Pride in Place Programme “Neighbourhood”, I was pleased that Conwy Council followed relied on sound data to arrive at the conclusion that Llandudno should benefit from this funding.

“I’m frankly surprised members of the Council’s Scrutiny Committee didn’t follow the same data driven approach and instead decided that Llandudno shouldn’t benefit from this multi-million pound investment.

“It’s vital that the Council’s Cabinet stick to their initial proposals, follow the data and secure this investment for Llandudno.”

Harry Saville, Welsh Conservative Councillor for Gogarth Mostyn and Second Senedd Candidate for Bangor Conwy Môn, said:

“I’m naturally disappointed that the Council Scrutiny Committee did not support the proposal to invest in Llandudno, with a larger “Neighbourhood” than initially proposed.

“Whether it’s continuing to repave Mostyn Street; upgrade road and drainage infrastructure on the Fairways Estate; or look at returning sand to Llandudno’s North Shore beach – there are plenty of worth while projects around Llandudno crying out for this kind of investment.”

Mae Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy wedi cael cynnig cyllid drwy Raglen Balchder Bro Llywodraeth y DU ac mae’r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn galw am wario'r cyllid hwnnw yn Llandudno.

Bydd y Rhaglen yn gweld hyd at £20 miliwn yn cael ei fuddsoddi mewn "Cymdogaeth" sy'n cynnwys "Ardaloedd Cynnyrch Ehangach Haen Is" dros gyfnod o ddeng mlynedd. Roedd y Cyngor wedi cynnig dechrau cyfeirio'r buddsoddiad at dair Ardal Gynnyrch Ehangach Haen Is: Mostyn 2, Tudno 1 a Tudno 2.

Yn siomedig, pleidleisiodd Pwyllgor Trosolwg a Chraffu Cyllid ac Adnoddau y Cyngor yn erbyn cyflwyno’r buddsoddiad yn Llandudno. Mae hyn er gwaethaf cefnogaeth drawsbleidiol i gynnig y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig i fuddsoddi mewn "Cymdogaeth" fwy yn Llandudno sy'n cynnwys pedair Ardal Gynnyrch Ehangach Haen Is, felly gallai hyd yn oed mwy o bobl yn Llandudno elwa ar y cyllid hwn.

Bydd y penderfyniad terfynol ar ble i fuddsoddi drwy'r Rhaglen Balchder Bro yn cael ei wneud gan Gabinet y Cyngor yn ddiweddarach yr wythnos hon.

Meddai Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig dros Aberconwy ac Ymgeisydd Arweiniol y Senedd dros Fangor Conwy Môn:

"Er bod gen i bryderon gwirioneddol ynglŷn â ffin “Cymdogaeth” y Rhaglen Balchder Bro, roeddwn i’n falch bod Cyngor Conwy wedi dibynnu ar ddata cadarn i ddod i'r casgliad y dylai Llandudno elwa ar y cyllid hwn.

"Rwy'n synnu mewn gwirionedd nad oedd aelodau o Bwyllgor Craffu'r Cyngor wedi dilyn yr un dull sy'n cael ei yrru gan ddata ac yn hytrach wedi penderfynu na ddylai Llandudno elwa ar fuddsoddiad gwerth miliynau o bunnoedd.

"Mae'n hanfodol bod Cabinet y Cyngor yn cadw at eu cynigion cychwynnol, yn dilyn y data a sicrhau'r buddsoddiad hwn ar gyfer Llandudno."

Meddai Harry Saville, Cynghorydd y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig dros Gogarth Mostyn ac Ail Ymgeisydd y Senedd dros Fangor Conwy Môn:

"Rwy'n naturiol siomedig nad oedd Pwyllgor Craffu'r Cyngor yn cefnogi'r cynnig i fuddsoddi yn Llandudno, gyda "Chymdogaeth" fwy nag a gynigiwyd yn wreiddiol.

"P'un a yw'n gyllid i barhau'r gwaith o ail-balmentu Stryd Mostyn; uwchraddio seilwaith ffyrdd a draenio ar Ystad Fairways; neu ystyried dychwelyd tywod i Draeth y Gogledd Llandudno - mae yna ddigon o brosiectau gwerth chweil o amgylch Llandudno sy'n galw am y math hwn o fuddsoddiad."
