RAF Valley on Anglesey, the only RAF base in Wales, has been described as “invaluable to the whole nation”.
The comment was made following a visit by Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy.
RAF Valley is home to No 4 Flying Training School, responsible for training the UK's next generation of world-class fighter pilots.
Aircrew are also trained at Valley for mountain and maritime operations throughout the world, and Valley is also home to the Mountain Rescue Service, the military's only high readiness, all weather search and rescue, aircraft post-crash management asset.
Commenting after the visit, Janet said:
“I cannot express strongly enough that RAF Valley is invaluable to the whole nation.
“For the local community, the base is the second largest employer on the island and offers amazing apprenticeships for young people.
“For the nation, Valley is home to five squadrons that help keep us and people globally safe. Additionally, we should all be extremely proud that it is at Ynys Mon that pilots can train to fly fast jets for both the RAF and Navy.
“My sincere thanks go to all the team at Valley for both their exceptional contribution to safeguarding our today and ensuring the country has the skills in place to protect out tomorrow too”.

Mae RAF y Fali ar Ynys Môn, unig ganolfan yr RAF yng Nghymru, wedi cael ei disgrifio fel lle "amhrisiadwy i'r genedl gyfan".

Mae criw awyr hefyd yn cael eu hyfforddi yn y Fali ar gyfer gweithrediadau mynyddig a morol ledled y byd, ac mae'r Fali hefyd yn gartref i'r Gwasanaeth Achub Mynydd, unig ased parodrwydd uchel y fyddin ar gyfer chwilio ac achub ym mhob tywydd a rheoli awyrennau ar ôl damwain.
Ar ôl yr ymweliad, dywedodd Janet:
"Ni allaf orbwysleisio bod RAF y Fali yn amhrisiadwy i'r genedl gyfan.
"I'r gymuned leol, y ganolfan yw'r ail gyflogwr mwyaf ar yr ynys ac mae'n cynnig prentisiaethau anhygoel i bobl ifanc.
"I'r genedl, mae’r Fali yn gartref i bum sgwadron sy'n helpu i’n cadw ni a phobl ym mhedwar ban byd yn ddiogel. Hefyd, dylen ni i gyd fod yn hynod falch mai ar Ynys Môn y gall peilotiaid hyfforddi i hedfan jetiau cyflym i'r RAF a'r Llynges.
"Diolch o galon i'r holl dîm yn y Fali am eu cyfraniad eithriadol at ein diogelu ni heddiw a sicrhau bod gan y wlad y sgiliau i’n hamddiffyn ni yfory hefyd".
