The recent closure of the Menai Bridge has highlighted the importance of creating a third Menai crossing to improve connectivity.
Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has renewed her call for a third Menai crossing, stressing the urgent need for improved connectivity to and from Ynys Môn.
Commenting on the issue, Janet said:
“Over the last several days, the closure of the Menai Bridge has caused businesses on the island to suffer, with high street business owners describing it as a ‘ghost town.’
“Responsibility for the bridge falls squarely on the shoulders of the Welsh Government. Further statements are needed from the Cabinet Secretary explaining why these faults were not identified earlier, and why no prior warning was given.
“The Welsh Conservatives have consistently called for a third Menai crossing, as there must always be suitable route on and off the island.
“Please be assured that I will continue to hold the Welsh Government to account over this closure and will keep campaigning for better access for the businesses and residents of Ynys Môn.”

Mae cau Pont y Borth yn ddiweddar wedi tynnu sylw at bwysigrwydd creu trydedd bont ar draws y Menai i wella cysylltedd.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi galw eto am drydedd bont ar draws y Menai, gan bwysleisio'r angen brys am well cysylltedd yn ôl ac ymlaen i Ynys Môn.
Wrth drafod y mater, dywedodd Janet:
"Dros y dyddiau diwethaf, mae busnesau ar yr ynys wedi dioddef yn sgil cau Pont Menai, gyda pherchnogion busnesau'r stryd fawr yn dweud eu bod prin wedi gweld yr un enaid byw.
"Cyfrifoldeb Llywodraeth Cymru yw’r bont, neb arall. Mae angen datganiadau pellach gan Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet yn esbonio pam na nodwyd y diffygion hyn yn gynharach, a pham na roddwyd rhybudd ymlaen llaw.
"Mae'r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig wedi galw'n gyson am drydedd bont ar draws y Menai, gan fod angen llwybr addas yn ôl ac ymlaen i’r ynys bob amser.
"Gallaf eich sicrhau y byddaf yn parhau i ddwyn Llywodraeth Cymru i gyfrif am y cau hwn a byddaf yn parhau i ymgyrchu am well mynediad i fusnesau a thrigolion Ynys Môn."
