Beach Users Urged to Dispose of Waste Responsibly/Annog defnyddwyr traethau i waredu gwastraff yn gyfrifol

Every year, beach cleans take place, and volunteers in Wales have found an average of 120 litter items for every 100 meters of surveyed beaches. Yet more needs to be done to tackle littering on public beaches and to raise awareness of its impact on our environment and on the animal and plant species that have the sea as their home.

Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has been a strong advocate for both protecting our marine environment and promoting a stronger stance against littering.

Commenting on the need to tackle littering on beaches, Janet said:

“Our marine environment in Wales is vitally important, and we must all do what we can to protect it. One of the main ways this can be achieved is by educating ourselves about the harmful impacts that both intentional and unintentional littering has on our marine species.

“It has been announced that a council in Wales has banned flying rings from their beaches due to these becoming stuck around seals’ necks, leading to devastating consequences. Such proactive measures and being more aware of impacts like this will help deter littering on our beaches and harm to wildlife.

“So, I highly encourage all visitors to beaches to dispose of their waste correctly and join us in protecting our wonderful marine environment.”

Bob blwyddyn, cynhelir sesiynau glanhau traethau, ac mae gwirfoddolwyr yng Nghymru wedi dod o hyd i 120 o eitemau sbwriel ar gyfartaledd am bob 100 metr o draethau a arolygwyd. Ond mae angen gwneud mwy i fynd i'r afael â sbwriel ar draethau cyhoeddus ac i godi ymwybyddiaeth o'i effaith ar ein hamgylchedd ac ar y rhywogaethau anifeiliaid a phlanhigion sy’n byw yn y môr.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi bod yn eiriolwr cryf dros ddiogelu ein hamgylchedd morol a hyrwyddo safiad cryfach yn erbyn taflu sbwriel.

Wrth sôn am yr angen i fynd i'r afael â thaflu sbwriel ar draethau, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae ein hamgylchedd morol yng Nghymru yn hanfodol bwysig, ac mae'n rhaid i ni i gyd wneud yr hyn y gallwn i'w ddiogelu. Un o'r prif ffyrdd y gellir cyflawni hyn yw trwy addysgu ein hunain am yr effeithiau niweidiol mae sbwriel bwriadol ac anfwriadol yn eu cael ar ein rhywogaethau morol.

"Cyhoeddwyd bod cyngor yng Nghymru wedi gwahardd cylchoedd hedfan o'u traethau gan fod y rhain yn mynd yn sownd o amgylch gwddf morloi, gan arwain at ganlyniadau trychinebus. Bydd mesurau rhagweithiol o'r fath a bod yn fwy ymwybodol o effeithiau fel hyn yn helpu i atal sbwriel ar ein traethau a niwed i fywyd gwyllt.

"Felly, rwy’n annog pob ymwelydd â thraethau i waredu eu gwastraff yn gywir ac ymuno â ni i ddiogelu ein hamgylchedd morol gwych."
