The petition, signed by 1,800 people demands that Conwy County Borough Council reconsider moving the library from Mostyn Street to Venue Cymru, and conduct and make public a professional economic impact study of the proposed changes.

Last year, Conwy Council undertook a public consultation. The findings have not been shared with the public.

Commenting on the future of Llandudno Library, Janet said:

“The library has been on Mostyn Street since 1873, and the current beautiful building since 1910.

“For over a century, this community hub has been at the heart of the town centre, so it is unsurprising that so many are campaigning passionately to save this fantastic resource. I am proud to be backing them.

“Conwy County Borough Council undertook a public consultation on their proposed plan to move the library and tourist information centre last year, but the results are being kept secret. They should be made public for all to see, and the findings listened too.

“At present the consultation appears to be little more than a box ticking exercise. If it wasn’t, I’m confident that the library and tourist information centre would be staying exactly where they are now”.

ENDS

Mae'r ddeiseb, a lofnodwyd gan 1,800 o bobl, yn mynnu bod Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy yn ailystyried symud y llyfrgell o Stryd Mostyn i Venue Cymru, a chynnal a chyhoeddi astudiaeth effaith economaidd broffesiynol o’r newidiadau arfaethedig.

Y llynedd, cynhaliodd Cyngor Conwy ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus. Nid yw'r canfyddiadau wedi'u rhannu gyda'r cyhoedd.

Wrth sôn am ddyfodol Llyfrgell Llandudno, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae'r llyfrgell wedi bod ar Stryd Mostyn ers 1873, a'r adeilad hardd presennol ers 1910.

"Ers dros ganrif, mae'r ganolfan gymunedol hon wedi bod yng nghanol y dref, felly dyw hi ddim yn syndod bod cymaint yn ymgyrchu'n angerddol i achub yr adnodd gwych hwn. Rwy'n falch o’u cefnogi.

"Cynhaliodd Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus ar eu cynllun arfaethedig i symud y llyfrgell a'r ganolfan groeso y llynedd, ond mae'r canlyniadau'n cael eu cadw'n gyfrinachol. Dylid eu gwneud yn gyhoeddus i bawb allu eu gweld, a gwrando ar y canfyddiadau hefyd.

"Ar hyn o bryd mae'n ymddangos nad yw'r ymgynghoriad yn ddim mwy nag ymarfer ticio bocsys. Pe na bai, rwy'n hyderus y byddai'r llyfrgell a'r ganolfan groeso yn aros yn union lle maen nhw nawr".
