GoSafe vans and their Safety cameras are vital in making our roads are safer and save people’s lives.
These vans are stationed in areas where people have been killed or injured, or where excessive speeds have been recorded.
On Friday, 4th April, Janet Finch-Saunders, the Member of Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, and Councillor Emma Leighton-Jones visited a GoSafe van while it was parked at Gloddaeth Lane Farm.
Janet welcomed the opportunity to learn how GoSafe vans and Safety camera operate, as well as to gain behind-the-scenes insight into their function. The visit also highlighted the need for greater enforcement outside of schools, to keep pupils safe on their journeys to and from school.
Commenting on her visit, Janet said:
“My greatest thanks goes to Gareth for welcoming me to the GoSafe van and explaining its functions. This was an enjoyable and insightful opportunity to learn how the van operates, what it monitors, and why it is placed in certain locations.
I would also like to thank all GoSafe operators for their important work. By monitoring vehicle speeds, they help to promote responsible driving behaviour and most importantly, saving lives.
It is important that there is greater enforcement taking place outside schools, as the safety of children is of the upmost importance.
These GoSafe vans play a crucial role in protecting pedestrians, cyclists and road users. It should also be noted that if the 30mph speed limit was enforced properly, there would not be a need for the reduced 20mph speed limit in some areas.
Visits like this one, along with educational stalls at events such as the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, provide people with a great opportunity to learn more about theses vans and dispel myths that many people hold about them.”

Mae'r faniau wedi'u lleoli mewn ardaloedd lle mae pobl wedi cael eu lladd neu eu hanafu, neu lle cofnodwyd bod gyrwyr yn goryrru.
Ddydd Gwener, 4 Ebrill, ymwelodd Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, a'r Cynghorydd Emma Leighton-Jones â fan GanBwyll tra roedd wedi parcio ar Fferm Lôn Gloddaeth.
Croesawodd Janet y cyfle i ddysgu sut mae faniau GanBwyll a’r camerâu diogelwch yn gweithio, yn ogystal â deall beth yw eu swyddogaeth. Roedd yr ymweliad hefyd yn tynnu sylw at yr angen am fwy o orfodi y tu allan i ysgolion, er mwyn cadw disgyblion yn ddiogel ar eu teithiau i ac o’r ysgol.
Wrth sôn am ei hymweliad, dywedodd Janet:
"Diolch o galon i Gareth yn enwedig am fy nghroesawu i fan GanBwyll ac esbonio ei swyddogaethau. Roedd hwn yn gyfle difyr a diddorol i ddysgu sut mae'r fan yn gweithio, yr hyn mae'n ei fonitro, a pham ei bod yn cael ei gosod mewn lleoliadau penodol.
Hoffwn hefyd ddiolch i holl weithredwyr GanBwyll am eu gwaith pwysig. Trwy fonitro cyflymderau cerbydau, maen nhw’n helpu i hyrwyddo ymddygiad gyrru cyfrifol ac yn bwysicaf oll, maen nhw’n achub bywydau.
Mae'n bwysig bod mwy o orfodaeth yn digwydd y tu allan i ysgolion, gan fod diogelwch plant yn hollbwysig.
Mae'r faniau GanBwyll hyn yn hanfodol am eu bod yn amddiffyn cerddwyr, beicwyr a defnyddwyr y ffordd. Dylid nodi hefyd, pe bai'r terfyn cyflymder 30mya yn cael ei orfodi'n iawn, ni fyddai angen y terfyn cyflymder 20mya is mewn rhai ardaloedd.
Mae ymweliadau fel hyn, ynghyd â stondinau addysgol mewn digwyddiadau fel y Sioe Fawr, yn rhoi cyfle gwych i bobl ddysgu mwy am y faniau hyn a chwalu'r camsyniadau sydd gan lawer o bobl amdanyn nhw."
