Llandudno

Dame Diana Johnson DBE MP, Minister of State for Policing, Fire and Crime Prevention, UK Government, has made clear that the decision on whether to have a custody unit at Llandudno Police Station is down to the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioners, North Wales Police.

The UK Government intervention comes in response to the concerns raised by Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, that there are no longer any custody units/cells at Llandudno Police Station.

This means that individuals have to be taken by car to the custody unit in St Asaph, which is at least 17 miles away from the Llandudno Magistrates’ Court.

The Minister also advised that North Wales Police are receiving an additional £11.7m in 2025/26.

Commenting on Llandudno Police Station, Janet said:

“Whilst the Welsh Government may think that Llandudno is well served by the cells in St Asaph, it makes no sense to waste officers time driving back and forth between Llandudno and the cells.

“The Minister has made clear that an extra £11.7m is coming to North Wales Police this financial year.  Some of that should be allocated to opening a custody unit here in Llandudno.

“As the UK Government have made clear, it is now down to the Chief Constable and Police and Crime Commissioner, North Wales Police”.

Mae'r Fonesig Diana Johnson DBE AS, y Gweinidog Gwladol dros Blismona, Tân ac Atal Troseddu yn Llywodraeth y DU, wedi ei gwneud yn glir mai Prif Gwnstabl a’r Comisiynydd yr Heddlu a Throseddu, Heddlu Gogledd Cymru, ddylai benderfynu a ddylid cael uned ddalfa yng Ngorsaf Heddlu Llandudno.

Daw ymyrraeth Llywodraeth y DU mewn ymateb i'r pryderon a godwyd gan Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy, nad oes unedau/celloedd cadw yng Ngorsaf Heddlu Llandudno mwyach.

Mae hyn yn golygu bod yn rhaid mynd ag unigolion mewn car i'r uned ddalfa yn Llanelwy, sydd o leiaf 17 milltir i ffwrdd o Lys Ynadon Llandudno.

Dywedodd y Gweinidog hefyd fod Heddlu Gogledd Cymru yn derbyn £11.7 miliwn ychwanegol yn 2025/26.

Wrth sôn am Orsaf Heddlu Llandudno, dywedodd Janet:

"Er y gall Llywodraeth Cymru feddwl bod Llandudno yn cael ei gwasanaethu'n dda gan y celloedd yn Llanelwy, nid yw'n gwneud unrhyw synnwyr i wastraffu amser swyddogion sy’n gorfod gyrru’n ôl ac ymlaen rhwng Llandudno a'r celloedd.

"Mae'r Gweinidog wedi ei gwneud yn glir bod £11.7 miliwn yn ychwanegol yn dod i Heddlu Gogledd Cymru y flwyddyn ariannol hon.  Dylai rhywfaint o’r arian hwnnw gael ei ddyrannu i agor uned ddalfa yma yn Llandudno.

"Fel y mae Llywodraeth y DU wedi gwneud yn glir, Prif Gwnstabl a Chomisiynydd yr Heddlu a Throseddau, Heddlu Gogledd Cymru, sydd i benderfynu ar hyn".
