Santander is to close 95 of its high street branches. This includes three in North West Wales: Caernarfon, Holyhead, and Colwyn Bay.

This decision to close 95 banks puts 750 employees at risk of losing their jobs.

The dates for closure are:
-    Caernarfon - 7 July
-    Colwyn Bay - 24 July
-    Holyhead - date to be announced

Commenting on the closure of more local banks in North West Wales, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:

“The number of bank and building society branches in Wales has significantly decreased, falling from 695 in 2012 to 435 in 2022.

“Some communities, such as Llanrwst and Conwy, have already been left with no bank at all, causing residents to have to travel even further to access their bank in person.

“There is no doubt that these additional closures will add to challenges faced by many people, including those with disabilities, older people and those living in rural areas.

“The move also weakens highstreets and highlights yet again the need for urgent action to be taken to revitalise town centres in North West Wales”

Mae Santander i gau 95 o'i ganghennau ar y stryd fawr. Mae’r nifer yn cynnwys tair cangen  yng Ngogledd Orllewin Cymru: Caernarfon, Caergybi a Bae Colwyn.

Mae'r penderfyniad hwn i gau 95 o fanciau yn peryglu swyddi 750 o weithwyr.

Dyma’r dyddiadau cau:
-    Caernarfon - 7 Gorffennaf
-    Bae Colwyn - 24 Gorffennaf
-    Caergybi - dyddiad i'w gyhoeddi

Wrth sôn am gau mwy o fanciau lleol yng Ngogledd Orllewin Cymru, dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders AS:

"Mae nifer y canghennau o fanciau a chymdeithasau adeiladu yng Nghymru wedi gostwng yn sylweddol, o 695 yn 2012 i 435 yn 2022.

"Mae rhai cymunedau, fel Llanrwst a Chonwy, eisoes wedi eu gadael heb fanc o gwbl, gan beri bod trigolion yn gorfod teithio hyd yn oed ymhellach i gael mynd i’w banc yn bersonol.

"Does dim amheuaeth y bydd y cau pellach hyn yn ychwanegu at yr heriau sy'n wynebu llawer o bobl, gan gynnwys y rhai ag anableddau, pobl hŷn a'r rhai sy'n byw mewn ardaloedd gwledig.

"Mae'r symudiad hefyd yn gwanhau'r stryd fawr ac yn tynnu sylw unwaith eto at yr angen i weithredu ar frys i adfywio canol trefi yng Ngogledd Orllewin Cymru".
