Monday, 10th March marks Commonwealth Day, celebrated across the Commonwealth, with events and activities taking place, including civic and faith gatherings, debates, flag-raising ceremonies and cultural celebrations.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, marks today by reflecting on the importance of the Commonwealth and the central message by His Majesty The King, Head of the Commonwealth, that “there is no more important task than to restore the disrupted harmony of our entire planet”.
In March 2024, Janet was one of the Senedd’s representatives who attended the 10th British Islands and Mediterranean Region Commonwealth Women’s Parliamentarians conference, where the theme was “Resilient Women: Moulding Girls into Strong Women”. Conferences like this highlight the significant impact that working together with our Commonwealth counterparts can have on society and how we can aid each other in tackling important issues such as the future of democracy.
Commenting on Commonwealth Day, Janet said:
“My engagement with other members of our Commonwealth has shown the true value that working together to achieve mutual goals can have, such as taking steps to ensure that young girls are given the support that they need to be come strong women, and future leaders.
“While there are many different cultures and experiences within the Commonwealth that must be embraced and that we can celebrate and learn from, it is also important to acknowledge that it is by embracing and celebrating those differences that we become stronger.
“Today and throughout the month of March my thoughts are with my fellow members of the Commonwealth and the great impact that we can all have together. As His Majesty the King said, as we mark this Commonwealth Day together, there is no more important task than to restore the disrupted harmony of our entire planet”.

Mae dydd Llun 10 Mawrth yn nodi Diwrnod y Gymanwlad, gyda digwyddiadau a gweithgareddau'n cael eu cynnal ar hyd a lled gwledydd y Gymanwlad, gan gynnwys cyfarfodydd ffydd a dinesig, trafodaethau, seremonïau codi baneri a dathliadau diwylliannol.
Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy, yn nodi heddiw drwy fyfyrio ar bwysigrwydd y Gymanwlad a'r neges ganolog gan Ei Fawrhydi'r Brenin, Pennaeth y Gymanwlad, "nad oes tasg bwysicach nag adfer cytgord ar y blaned gyfan”.
Ym mis Mawrth 2024, roedd Janet yn un o gynrychiolwyr y Senedd a fynychodd 10fed cynhadledd Seneddwyr Ynysoedd Prydain a Rhanbarth Môr y Canoldir Menywod y Gymanwlad, a’r thema oedd "Menywod cydnerth: Mowldio merched yn fenywod cryf”. Mae cynadleddau fel hyn yn pwysleisio'r effaith sylweddol y gall cydweithio â'n cymheiriaid yn y Gymanwlad ei chael ar gymdeithas a sut allwn ni helpu ein gilydd i fynd i'r afael â materion pwysig fel dyfodol democratiaeth.
Wrth sôn am Ddiwrnod y Gymanwlad, dywedodd Janet:
“Mae fy ymgysylltiad ag aelodau eraill o'r Gymanwlad wedi dangos gwir werth cydweithio â'n gilydd i gyflawni nodau sydd gennym yn gyffredin, megis cymryd camau i sicrhau bod merched ifanc yn cael y cymorth sydd ei angen arnyn nhw i ddod yn fenywod cryf, ac yn arweinwyr y dyfodol.
“Er bod diwylliannau a phrofiadau di-ri o fewn y Gymanwlad i'w cofleidio, eu dathlu ac y gellir dysgu ohonynt, mae hefyd yn bwysig cydnabod mai trwy gofleidio a dathlu'r gwahaniaethau hynny yr ydym yn dod yn gryfach.
“Heddiw a gydol mis Mawrth mae fy meddyliau gyda fy nghyd-aelodau o'r Gymanwlad a'r effaith fawr y gall pob un ohonom ei chael gyda'n gilydd. Fel y dywedodd Ei Fawrhydi y Brenin, wrth i ni nodi Diwrnod y Gymanwlad gyda'n gilydd, nid oes tasg bwysicach nag adfer cytgord ar y blaned gyfan”.
