Welsh Government Budget does Nothing for Those Most in Need

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has strongly criticised the Welsh Government’s latest budget, condemning it for failing to provide meaningful support for those struggling in the current crisis.

As part of a deal with the Liberal Democrats, Jane Dodds MS has secured an additional £100 million. That only represents less than half a percent of the Welsh Government budget.

Speaking after the budget announcement, Janet said:

"People across Wales are struggling, yet this budget fails to provide the support they desperately need. Our NHS is in crisis—record waiting times, over 2,300 patients waiting more than a year for treatment, and overstretched staff facing unbearable pressure.

"Ambulances are stuck outside hospitals, with nearly 2,000 extra hours lost to handover delays. In November alone, almost 3,600 patients waited over 12 hours for care—despite the government's own target of zero. This is the result of years of mismanagement, and the people of Wales deserve better.

“Meanwhile, our children are learning in school buildings that are literally leaking, and local councils are being forced to make devastating cuts to vital services.

"The Welsh Government must put people before pet projects. Councils are being left to deal with Labour’s financial mismanagement—Conwy alone will now have increased council tax by almost 30% in three years.

"Meanwhile, families, businesses, and communities are struggling to make ends meet. This budget is a disgrace, and the people of Wales deserve better. I will keep fighting for a budget that delivers real support where it’s needed most."
