Concerns over the lack of custody units in Llandudno/ Pryderon am ddiffyg dalfeydd yn Llandudno

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has written to the Welsh Government and the Home Office to raise concerns that there are no longer any custody units/cells at Llandudno Police Station.

This means that individuals will need to be taken by car to the custody unity in St Asaph, which is a 34 miles round trip from the Llandudno.

The Welsh Government has replied noting that:

“North Wales Police have provided assurance that their three custody units, one in each geographical area of the force, are run in accordance with Home Office Authorised Professional Practice. They have also provided assurance that Llandudno is well-served by the nearby custody unit in St Asaph”.

Commenting on this matter, Janet said:

“Numerous constituents have raised concerns about the lack of a cell at Llandudno Police Station. In particular they have highlighted to me the amount of time it takes officers to transport perpetrators from Llandudno to the cells in St Asaph.

“Whilst I understand that a custody suite in Llandudno will require further resources to be invested in the town, I believe that the time saved by the officers no longer undertaking this journey could be more cost effective in the long-run.

“Whilst the Welsh Government and North Wales Police have advised that Llandudno is well served by the unt in St Asaph I have written to the Home Office asking for a review”.

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi ysgrifennu at Lywodraeth Cymru a'r Swyddfa Gartref i rannu pryderon nad oes unrhyw ddalfeydd/celloedd yng Ngorsaf Heddlu Llandudno mwyach.

Mae hyn yn golygu y bydd angen mynd ag unigolion mewn car i’r ddalfa yn Llanelwy, sy'n daith 34 milltir yno ac yn ôl o Landudno.

Mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi ateb gan nodi:

"Mae Heddlu Gogledd Cymru wedi rhoi sicrwydd bod eu tair uned dalfa, un ym mhob ardal ddaearyddol o'r llu, yn cael eu rhedeg yn unol ag Ymarfer Proffesiynol Awdurdodedig y Swyddfa Gartref. Maen nhw hefyd wedi rhoi sicrwydd bod Llandudno yn cael ei gwasanaethu'n dda gan yr uned dalfeydd gerllaw yn Llanelwy".

Wrth sôn am y mater hwn, dywedodd Janet:

"Mae nifer o etholwyr wedi codi pryderon am ddiffyg cell yng Ngorsaf Heddlu Llandudno. Yn benodol, maen nhw wedi tynnu fy sylw at faint o amser mae'n ei gymryd i swyddogion gludo troseddwyr o Landudno i'r celloedd yn Llanelwy.

"Er fy mod yn deall y bydd angen buddsoddi rhagor o adnoddau yn y dref er mwyn cael cyfleusterau dalfa yn Llandudno, credaf y gallai'r amser a fyddai’n cael ei arbed os na fyddai’n rhaid i swyddogion ymgymryd â'r daith hon fod yn fwy cost effeithiol yn yr hirdymor.

"Tra bod Llywodraeth Cymru a Heddlu Gogledd Cymru wedi dweud bod Llandudno yn cael ei gwasanaethu'n dda gan yr uned yn Llanelwy, rwyf wedi ysgrifennu at y Swyddfa Gartref yn gofyn am adolygiad".
