Janet Finch-Saunders MS has welcomed the three-month reopening of Menai Bridge, but reiterated the need to progress with safeguarding the world's first major suspension bridge in the long term through the creation of a third crossing / Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi croesawu ailagor Pont y Borth am dri mis, ond wedi ailadroddodd yr angen i symud ymlaen i ddiogelu pont grog fawr gyntaf y byd yn y tymor hir drwy greu trydedd bont.

Commenting on Menai Bridge, Janet said / Dywedodd Janet: :

“Following two years of disruption, and with more to come, the three-month reopening is a welcome break for long-suffering residents and businesses / Yn dilyn dwy flynedd o aflonyddwch, a mwy i ddod, mae'r ailagor am dri mis yn seibiant i'w groesawu i drigolion a busnesau.

“I thank all who are involved with the project. However, even when it is completed it will remain the case that a bridge, originally built for horse-drawn carriages, is under major pressure as one of only two routes to and from Ynys Môn / Diolchaf i bawb sy’n ymwneud â’r prosiect. Fodd bynnag, hyd yn oed pan fydd wedi'i chwblhau bydd yn parhau i fod yn wir fod pont, a adeiladwyd yn wreiddiol ar gyfer ceffyl a throl, o dan bwysau mawr fel un o ddau lwybr yn unig i ac o Ynys Môn.

“As the strategic business case for a third crossing concluded, the impact of not investing in the scheme has been clearly set out, with detrimental effects on the economy of the island and North West Wales, poor international connectivity, and worsening performance of the trunk road network in terms of journey times, reliability and resilience. All of which will constrain the opportunity for future growth in Ynys Môn, surrounding areas, and in particular impact on the ability of the nuclear power programme to achieve its full potential / Fel y nodwyd yn yr achos busnes strategol ar gyfer trydedd groesfan, mae effaith peidio â buddsoddi yn y cynllun yn glir, gydag effeithiau andwyol i economi’r ynys a Gogledd Orllewin Cymru, cysylltedd rhyngwladol gwael, a pherfformiad y gefnffordd, amseroedd teithio, dibynadwyedd, a gwydnwch yn gwaethygu. Bydd hyn oll yn cyfyngu ar y cyfle i dyfu Ynys Môn a’r ardaloedd cyfagos yn y dyfodol, ac yn arbennig yn effeithio ar allu’r rhaglen ynni niwclear i gyflawni ei llawn botensial.”
