Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy yesterday highlighted the dangerous roundabouts on the A55 at Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan to the First Minister.
This follows a response from the Cabinet Secretary for Transport in September that outlined that the development of the roundabouts has reverted to WelTAG Stage 0. Meaning that, subject to conclusions of the WelTAG Stage 0, consultants will be appointed to progress to the next stages of WelTAG Stages 1 and 2 during the next financial year to identify and consult on options.
Moreover, in her response the First Minister seemed unable to directly answer the question and instead talked about Denbighshire and Gwynedd.
Commenting on this Janet said:
“I am quite shocked really by the response from the First Minister. I am extremely passionate about this development to our roads.
“After nine years, and my numerous times raising the matter, we still haven't made any progress in improving the dangerous and cumbersome roundabouts on the A55.
“The roundabouts are extremely hazardous, with a horrific accident in June involving a caravan that very nearly killed its occupants and closed the Llanfairfechan roundabout over 24 hours.
“Up until two years ago, around £9 million had been spent on endless plans and reports. Now we are back to square one.
“Sadly, the First Minister could not address my concerns, passing the buck to her Cabinet Secretary. Why when I am asking about Penmaenmawr and Llanfairfechan is the First Minister banging on about Denbighshire and Gwynedd?
“Incredibly frustrating and it really highlights how disorganised Welsh Labour really is. Now all we are going to see is more rebuttals with empty promises of plans, pledges and progress. Just endless wasted money when we could be spending it on making a difference.”
ENDS
Ddoe fe wnaeth Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, dynnu sylw’r Prif Weinidog at y cylchfannau peryglus ar yr A55 ym Mhenmaenmawr a Llanfairfechan.
Daw hyn yn dilyn ymateb gan Ysgrifennydd y Cabinet dros Drafnidiaeth ym mis Medi a amlinellodd fod datblygiad y cylchfannau wedi dychwelyd i Gam 0 WelTAG. Yn amodol ar gasgliadau Cam 0 WelTAG, bydd ymgynghorwyr yn cael eu penodi i symud y cynlluniau ymlaen i Gamau 1 a 2 WelTAG yn ystod y flwyddyn ariannol nesaf er mwyn nodi’r opsiynau ac ymgynghori yn eu cylch.
Ar ben hynny, yn ei hymateb roedd yn ymddangos nad oedd y Prif Weinidog yn gallu ateb y cwestiwn yn uniongyrchol a’i bod yn hytrach yn siarad am Sir Ddinbych a Gwynedd.
Wrth sôn am hyn, dywedodd Janet:
"Rydw i wedi fy syfrdanu'n fawr gan ymateb y Prif Weinidog. Rwy'n angerddol iawn am y datblygiad hwn i'n ffyrdd.
"Ar ôl naw mlynedd, a chodi’r mater sawl gwaith, dydyn ni ddim wedi gwneud unrhyw gynnydd o hyd o ran gwella'r cylchfannau peryglus a thrafferthus hyn ar yr A55.
"Mae'r cylchfannau'n hynod beryglus, gyda damwain erchyll ym mis Mehefin yn cynnwys carafán a fu bron iawn â lladd ei deiliaid, a gaeodd cylchfan Llanfairfechan am dros 24 awr.
"Hyd at ddwy flynedd yn ôl, roedd tua £9 miliwn wedi’i wario ar gynlluniau ac adroddiadau diddiwedd. Nawr rydyn ni'n ôl lle ddechreuon ni.
"Yn anffodus, ni allai'r Prif Weinidog fynd i'r afael â ‘mhryderon, gan drosglwyddo'r cyfan i ofal ei Hysgrifennydd Cabinet. Pam, wrth i mi holi am Benmaenmawr a Llanfairfechan, fod y Prif Weinidog yn paldaruo am Sir Ddinbych a Gwynedd?
"Mae'n hynod rwystredig ac mae'n tynnu sylw at ba mor ddi-glem yw Llafur Cymru mewn gwirionedd. Y cyfan rydyn ni'n mynd i'w weld rŵan yw mwy o oedi gydag addewidion gwag am gynlluniau, addunedau a chynnydd. Mae arian diddiwedd yn cael ei wastraffu pan allen ni fod yn ei wario ar wneud gwahaniaeth."
