Today Janet responded to the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs regarding flooding in Wales. Firstly, highlighting that 1 in 8 houses are at risk in Wales and that last winter, 483 flood alerts were issued by NRW between January and April, marking an increase of 16% on the year before. In comparing the decades of 1991-2000 and 2013-2022, winters in the UK as a whole are 10% wetter. Janet also went on to outline some solutions such as adopting natural flood management techniques such as the re-meandering of rivers, restoring nature’s natural flood barriers. Additionally, the Upper Conwy Catchment project is working to restore the Ysbyty Estate back to a healthy and robust catchment and ensuring that our reservoirs have the right amount of support to ensure their saftey.
