Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is greatly enthused to see that the campaign to stop Conwy County Borough Council from moving the Llandudno Library to Venue Cymru is gathering momentum.

Speaking to one of the organisers of the Keep Llandudno Library in Town Centre group, it was revealed that they now have over 600 members and signatures from members of the public.

The campaign comes after Conwy Council endorsed broad proposals for the Venue Cymru Futures Project and plans to submit a business case to access £10 million from the UK Government's Levelling-Up Fund.

Which, according to the proposals, would see Llandudno Library relocated from Mostyn Street to the theatre building on the town’s seafront, along with the tourist information centre, which is currently situated in the Victoria Centre.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“I am thrilled to see the response from the public regarding the opposition to move our library out of the heart of Llandudno.

“Our campaign is gathering a lot of momentum. My own petition has received over 250 signatures with everyone adamant that the library would be doomed to fail it if was moved out of its home.

“The library has been on Mostyn Street since 1873, with it being in its current beautiful building since 1910. It has been extended and refurbished throughout the years and really is the heart of Llandudno town centre.

“The Council have announced a consultation – found here - which I hope everyone will fill out, only by registering our anger at the move can we hope to prevent it.

“I would like to thank Bradley Hughes and Jessica Harries for their hard work campaigning and I encouraged everyone to join their Facebook group that can be found here. I also ask that you sign my own petition – found here – to register your support for the library and tourist information centre.”

Further to this, Bradley said:

“The library is an integral part of our town and community. The building is such a focal point on the High Street and it has always been known to be the library. Moving the library to Venue Cymru would mean not only moving the books, but moving the staff who do nothing but help, a warm and safe place for people who need it, a place to use a computer, a place to relax, a place to learn something new, a place to enhance what you already know; yet another place on the High Street, gone. The library is used every single day, so why would Conwy Council want to see it not being used by people of their community?”
