NCI Llandudno

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is delighted to support the National Coastwatch Institution in their pursuit of a permanent unit for the Llandudno site.

The lookout station began operations as NCI Great Orme in August 2019. Housed in one of the NCI's trailer-mounted mobile units, it was relocated to its current site on 24th August 2020. Now rebranded as NCI Llandudno to better reflect the area it serves, the station has officially reopened.

The unit is looking to move into more permanent residence and has been applying for grants to make this a reality. Money from the Welsh Government has already been approved and the group is currently waiting for planning permission from Conwy County  Borough Council.

Commenting on the news, Janet said:

“I am delighted to see that the Llandudno NCI are looking for permanent residence. I have visited numerous times over the years and I am always impressed with the dedication and passion I see from the staff and volunteers.

“The unit has had 30 call outs on the last year which shows just how vital the service is to fisherman, sailors and tourists.

“It is crucial that we show support for these sorts of groups, for without the selflessness of volunteers the unit could not run.

“I would like to encourage anyone whose interested to get in touch with the unit and apply as a volunteers, or donate to them.

“We hope that Conwy Council will grant them their planning permission for a permanent site and I look forward to many more years of a watchful eye over the Ormes Bay.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, yn falch iawn o gefnogi Sefydliad National Coastwatch wrth iddyn nhw geisio cael uned barhaol ar gyfer safle Llandudno.

Dechreuodd yr orsaf wylio ei gweithrediadau fel NCI Great Orme ym mis Awst 2019. Wedi'i lleoli yn un o unedau symudol trelar yr NCI, fe'i hadleoliwyd i'w safle presennol ar 24 Awst 2020. Mae'r orsaf bellach wedi'i hailfrandio fel NCI Llandudno i adlewyrchu'n well yr ardal y mae'n ei gwasanaethu, ac mae'r orsaf wedi ailagor yn swyddogol.

Mae'r uned yn bwriadu symud i gartref mwy parhaol ac mae wedi bod yn gwneud cais am grantiau i wireddu hyn. Mae arian gan Lywodraeth Cymru eisoes wedi'i gymeradwyo ac mae'r grŵp ar hyn o bryd yn aros am ganiatâd cynllunio gan Gyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Conwy.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:

"Rwy'n falch iawn o weld bod NCI Llandudno yn chwilio am gartref parhaol. Rwyf wedi ymweld sawl gwaith dros y blynyddoedd ac mae'r ymroddiad a'r angerdd a welaf gan y staff a'r gwirfoddolwyr bob amser wedi creu argraff arna i.

"Mae'r uned wedi ei galw allan 30 o weithiau yn ystod y flwyddyn ddiwethaf sy'n dangos pa mor hanfodol yw'r gwasanaeth i bysgotwyr, morwyr a thwristiaid.

"Mae'n hanfodol ein bod yn dangos ein cefnogaeth i grwpiau o’r fath, oherwydd heb anhunanoldeb gwirfoddolwyr, allai'r uned ddim goroesi.

"Hoffwn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb i gysylltu â'r uned a gwneud cais fel gwirfoddolwyr, neu gyfrannu atyn nhw.

"Ein gobaith yw y bydd Cyngor Conwy yn rhoi caniatâd cynllunio ar gyfer safle parhaol iddyn nhw ac edrychaf ymlaen at flynyddoedd rhagor o oruchwyliaeth ddiogel i bawb yn y Gogarth."
