Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy is disappointed that patients are waiting up to 167 weeks for knee surgery and 153 weeks for hip surgery within the Betsi Health Board.

A recent inquiry to the Chair of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board has disclosed that there are currently 666 patients waiting for knee surgery within the Central Integrated Health Community, with the longest wait being 167 weeks. Additionally, there are 452 patients awaiting hip surgery, with the longest wait extending to 153 weeks.

This comes after numerous constituents have written to Janet concerned about the extended wait for their knee or hip surgery.

Commenting on the news Janet said:

“Sadly, this is yet another example of the stress and strain that our Health Board is under.

“Waiting nearly 3 years for surgery is simply unacceptable and I know that in this time, while awaiting surgery, there is a real risk that patient’s situations will deteriorate further meaning more invasive and prolonged procedures are required to treat them.

“With our new First Minister in place, who is all too aware of the issues with waiting lists, I urge her to treat Welsh waiting times as her priority. Wales urgently needs to get its NHS back on track.

“However, with a return to the same old guard, is Mark Drakeford MS really the right person for the job? Considering he was the one who originally put Betsi Health Board into special measures back in 2015, are we to believe that his wisdom and experience will fix any of these issues.”

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy yn siomedig bod cleifion yn disgwyl hyd at 167 wythnos am lawdriniaeth ar y pen-glin a 153 wythnos am lawdriniaeth ar y glun ym Mwrdd Iechyd Betsi Cadwaladr.

Mae ymchwiliad diweddar i Gadeirydd Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr wedi datgelu bod 666 o gleifion yn disgwyl am lawdriniaeth pen-glin ar hyn o bryd yn y Gymuned Iechyd Integredig Ganolog, gyda'r cyfnod disgwyl hiraf yn 167 wythnos. Hefyd, mae 452 o gleifion yn disgwyl am lawdriniaeth ar y glun, gyda'r cyfnod disgwyl hiraf yn 153 wythnos.

Daw hyn wedi i etholwyr niferus ysgrifennu at Janet yn poeni am y cyfnod disgwyl hir am  lawdriniaeth ar eu pen-glin neu glun.

Wrth sôn am y newyddion dywedodd Janet:

“Yn anffodus, mae hon yn enghraifft arall eto o'r straen sydd ar ein Bwrdd Iechyd.

“Mae disgwyl bron i dair blynedd am lawdriniaeth yn gwbl annerbyniol ac rwy'n gwybod, yn ystod y cyfnod hwn, wrth ddisgwyl am lawdriniaeth, bod risg wirioneddol y bydd cleifion yn dirywio ymhellach gan olygu bod angen llawdriniaeth fwy mewnwthiol ac estynedig i'w trin.

“Gyda'n Prif Weinidog newydd yn ei lle, sy'n ymwybodol iawn o'r problemau gyda rhestrau aros, rwy'n pwyso arni i ymdrin ag amseroedd aros Cymru fel ei blaenoriaeth. Mae dirfawr  angen i Gymru gael ei GIG yn ôl ar ei draed.

“Fodd bynnag, drwy roi’r dasg yn nwylo'r un rhai ag o’r blaen, ai Mark Drakeford AS yw'r person iawn ar gyfer y dasg mewn gwirionedd? O ystyried mai ef oedd yr un a roddodd Fwrdd Iechyd Betsi dan fesurau arbennig yn wreiddiol yn ôl yn 2015, a ydym i gredu y bydd ei ddoethineb a'i brofiad yn datrys unrhyw un o'r materion hyn.”
