World Environment Day

On Wednesday the 5th June, Natural Resources Wales and Members of the the Welsh Parliament are showcasing Wales' outsized role to combat climate change, with confirmed speakers such as:

  • Lord Deben, former Chairman of the UK’s independent Committee on Climate Change
  • Huw Irranca-Davies MS, Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
  • Clare Pillman, Chief Executive, Natural Resources Wales

The shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS is delighted to be taking part in the event which aims to increase awareness about what Wales has done, and what Members of the Parliament can do to further boost Wales' standing in the world of green energy.

Commenting on the event, Janet said:

"Wales welcomes millions of visitors every year who travel to explore our stunning beaches, awe-inspiring mountains and our splendid lakes. What we have to offer is showcased across the world but as such, it is our duty to protect what we have.

It is great that awareness is being raised to celebrate our successes, and also allow for productive discussions moving forward. I have spoken with specialists across the field, such as those at the School of Marine Sciences at Bangor, the Marine Conservation Society and to Ministers such as Huw Irranca-Davies MS/AS to discuss how to best deal with the environmental crisis.

Environmental concerns are raised all across Wales, whether through green energy, reducing waste or carbon capture technology. To save what we hold close to our hearts, we need to act fast!"
