Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, which has over a quarter of its population aged 65 or over, has spoken in delight at the 8.5% increase in state pension today. It is now worth:
- £221.20 a week for the full, new flat-rate state pension (for those who reached state pension age after April 2016)
- £169.50 a week for the full, old basic state pension (for those who reached state pension age before April 2016)
Commenting on support for pensioners, Janet said:
“I am delighted that the UK Government has ensured that the value of the state pension is not overtaken by the increase in the cost of living or the working population's income.
“For constituencies like Aberconwy, which has a high proportion of pensioners, this investment will go a long way in helping residents with everyday life.
“I have long campaigned to ensure that better support is provided to older people in Aberconwy and Wales, so am delighted that the UK Government is delivering”.

Wrth sôn am gymorth i bensiynwyr, meddai Janet:
“Rwy’n falch bod Llywodraeth y DU wedi sicrhau nad yw’r cynnydd yng nghostau byw neu incwm y boblogaeth weithio yn uwch na gwerth pensiwn y wladwriaeth.
“I etholaethau fel Aberconwy, sydd â chyfran uchel o bensiynwyr, bydd y buddsoddiad hwn yn gymorth mawr i drigolion allu byw eu bywydau bob dydd.
“Rydw i wedi ymgyrchu’n hir i sicrhau bod cymorth gwell yn cael ei ddarparu i bobl hŷn yn Aberconwy a Chymru, felly rwy’n falch iawn o weld Llywodraeth y DU yn cyflawni”.
