Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has called for the enforcement of the default 20mph speed limit on restricted roads across Wales, introduced by Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru on 17 September 2023, to be suspended until the outcome of the review is known.

Both candidates vying to replace Mark Drakeford MS as First Minister, Jeremy Miles MS, and Vaughan Gething MS, have committed to see a review of the speed limit if they are elected.

Commenting on the enforcement of the default 20mph limit in Aberconwy, Janet said:

“When Mark Drakeford steps down as First Minister in March 2024, we are guaranteed a review of the 20mph policy.

“With Welsh Labour resolve faltering, and the public given a glimmer of hope that the new default could be changed, there is now major uncertainty.

“The hugely unpopular change in law should not be enforced until we know the outcome of the promised review, which hopefully results in the default 20mph being scrapped”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi galw am atal y bwriad i orfodi’r terfyn cyflymder diofyn o 20mya ar ffyrdd cyfyngedig ledled Cymru, a gyflwynwyd gan Llafur Cymru a Phlaid Cymru ar 17 Medi 2023, hyd nes ein bod yn gwybod canlyniad yr adolygiad.

Mae’r ddau ymgeisydd i olynu Mark Drakeford AS fel Prif Weinidog, Jeremy Miles AS, a Vaughan Gething AS, wedi ymrwymo i gynnal adolygiad o’r terfyn cyflymder pe baent yn cael eu hethol.

Wrth siarad am orfodi’r terfyn cyflymder diofyn o 20mya yn Aberconwy dywedodd Janet:

“Pan fydd Mark Drakeford yn camu i lawr fel Prif Weinidog ym mis Mawrth 2024, rydym yn sicr o gael adolygiad o’r polisi 20mya.

“Gyda Llafur Cymru’n petruso, a’r cyhoedd yn gweld llygedyn o obaith y gellid newid y terfyn diofyn, mae yna ansicrwydd mawr yn bodoli nawr.

“Ni ddylid gorfodi’r newid amhoblogaidd tu hwnt hwn hyd nes ein bod ni’n gwybod canlyniad yr adolygiad a gafodd ei addo, a fydd yn arwain at ddileu’r 20mya diofyn gobeithio”.
