The petition which calls for the Welsh Government to fund the removal of quarry rocks and the restoration of sand and groynes to Llandudno North Shore, has been formally presented to Jack Sargeant MS, Chair of Petitions Committee, Welsh Parliament.

The petition leaders Cllr Ian Turner and Janet Finch-Saunders MS/AS were joined by local residents and elected members to formally handover the 12,500 strong petition on the promenade, Llandudno.

Speaking after presenting the petition, Janet said:

“With tourism in Conwy County now worth £1.1 billion, it is essential that we unleash that economic potential further by restoring sand to North Shore.

“The Plaid Cymru and Welsh Labour Conwy County Borough Council should never have dumped quarry rocks on our shore, a decision which has made the beach inaccessible to many, forced the donkeys into retirement, and harmed the tourist offer in North Wales.

“It is essential for the Welsh Government to understand that North Shore is a truly unique beach. It is one of the focal points in a town which has been named among the top 10 best holiday destinations in the UK for autumn 2023 by Tripadvisor.

“I would like to thank everyone who is fighting tirelessly to save our beach”.

The petition will now be considered for debate by the Welsh Parliament’s Petition Committee.

Mae'r ddeiseb sy'n galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i ariannu’r gwaith o gael gwared ar greigiau chwareli ac adfer tywod a grwynau i Draeth y Gogledd yn Llandudno, wedi cael ei chyflwyno'n ffurfiol i Jack Sargeant AS, Cadeirydd y Pwyllgor Deisebau yn y Senedd.

Ymunodd trigolion lleol ac aelodau etholedig ag arweinwyr y ddeiseb, y Cynghorydd Ian Turner a Janet Finch-Saunders AS, i drosglwyddo'r ddeiseb o 12,500 o bobl yn ffurfiol ar y promenâd.

Wrth siarad ar ôl cyflwyno'r ddeiseb, dywedodd Janet:

"Gyda thwristiaeth yn Sir Conwy bellach yn werth £1.1 biliwn, mae'n hanfodol ein bod yn gwireddu'r potensial economaidd hwnnw ymhellach trwy adfer tywod i Draeth y Gogledd.

"Ni ddylai Plaid Cymru a Chyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Llafur Cymru fod wedi gadael creigiau chwareli ar ein glannau, penderfyniad sydd wedi gwneud y traeth yn anhygyrch i lawer, wedi gorfodi'r asynnod i ymddeol, ac wedi niweidio'r cynnig i dwristiaid yng Ngogledd Cymru.

"Mae'n hanfodol i Lywodraeth Cymru ddeall bod Traeth y Gogledd yn draeth gwirioneddol unigryw. Mae'n un o'r prif atyniadau mewn tref sydd wedi'i henwi ymhlith y 10 cyrchfan gwyliau gorau yn y DU ar gyfer hydref 2023 gan Tripadvisor.

"Hoffwn ddiolch i bawb sy'n brwydro'n ddiflino i achub ein traeth".

Bydd y ddeiseb nawr yn cael ei hystyried i'w thrafod gan Bwyllgor Deisebau Senedd Cymru.
