Llandudno

Janet Finch-Saunders MS, who has been running a long term campaign to see services at Llandudno Hospital expanded, has spoken of her delight at the decision by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to approve a business case to develop an Orthopaedic surgical hub and centre of excellence in Llandudno.

It is expected that the new hub will deliver 1,900 orthopaedic procedures per year, increasing surgical delivery by 734 patients, and helping to reduce the overall waiting list for these operations.

It will also deliver a significant investment in additional infrastructure which supports the future sustainability of the wider Llandudno site and provides a strong strategic platform for a phase two which would allow a further expansion of high volume, low complexity surgery outside of a District General Hospital setting.

The business case has now been submitted to Welsh Government. If approved, the new facility will be operational in Autumn 2024.

Commenting on the plans for Llandudno Hospital,  Janet said:

“I am proud to be using the levers at my disposal to champion Llandudno Hospital in the Health Board area and Welsh Parliament, and that my campaign is delivering positive change.

“With over 8,000 patient pathways waiting over 36 weeks to start trauma and orthopaedic surgery, there is no denying the urgent need to reduce waiting times.

“The proposal approved by the Health Board is to refurbish a vacant ward at Llandudno hospital to create 19 bed spaces, construct two new laminar flow theatres, create an eight-bedded enhanced recovery area and refurbish and extend the existing radiology department.

“It is in the best interest of the Health Board, its staff and patients, for the Welsh Government to approve this transformational application”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS, sydd wedi cynnal ymgyrch hirdymor i weld ehangu gwasanaethau yn Ysbyty Llandudno, wedi sôn am ei llawenydd ynghylch penderfyniad Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr i gymeradwyo achos busnes i ddatblygu canolfan lawfeddygol a chanolfan ragoriaeth orthopedig yn Llandudno.

Disgwylir y bydd y ganolfan newydd yn darparu 1,900 o driniaethau orthopedig y flwyddyn, gan gynyddu'r ddarpariaeth lawfeddygol gan 734 o gleifion, a helpu i leihau'r rhestr aros gyffredinol ar gyfer y llawdriniaethau hyn.

Bydd hefyd yn sicrhau buddsoddiad sylweddol mewn seilwaith ychwanegol a fydd yn gwneud safle ehangach Llandudno yn fwy cynaliadwy at y dyfodol ac yn darparu llwyfan strategol cryf ar gyfer cam dau a fyddai'n caniatáu cynnal mwy o lawdriniaethau llai cymhleth ar gyfer nifer fawr o bobl y tu allan i leoliad Ysbyty Cyffredinol Dosbarth.

Mae'r achos busnes bellach wedi'i gyflwyno i Lywodraeth Cymru. Os caiff ei gymeradwyo, bydd y cyfleuster newydd yn weithredol o hydref 2024.

Wrth sôn am y cynlluniau ar gyfer Ysbyty Llandudno, dywedodd Janet:

"Rwy'n falch o allu defnyddio’r dylanwad sydd gennyf i hyrwyddo Ysbyty Llandudno yn ardal y Bwrdd Iechyd a’r Senedd, a bod fy ymgyrch yn sicrhau newid cadarnhaol.

"Gyda thros 8,000 o lwybrau cleifion yn aros dros 36 wythnos i ddechrau llawdriniaeth trawma ac orthopedig, does dim gwadu'r angen brys i leihau amseroedd aros.

"Y cynnig a gymeradwyir gan y Bwrdd Iechyd yw adnewyddu ward wag yn Ysbyty Llandudno i greu 19 o welyau, adeiladu dwy theatr llif laminar newydd, creu man adfer gwell wyth gwely ac adnewyddu ac ymestyn yr adran radioleg bresennol.

"Mae er budd gorau'r Bwrdd Iechyd, ei staff a'i gleifion, i Lywodraeth Cymru gymeradwyo'r cais trawsnewidiol hwn".
