Anti-20mph Petition Surpasses 425,000 Signatures / Deiseb gwrth-20mya yn denu dros 425,000 o lofnodion

20mph sign.

The recent roll out of the blanket 20 miles per hour speed limit across Wales, which came into law on Sunday 17th September, is already proving to be wholly unpopular with residents of Wales.

A petition on the Senedd Petitions website, titled ‘We want the Welsh Government to rescind and remove the disastrous 20mph law’, has this morning passed the milestone of 425,000 signatures.

Petitions have to reach 10,000 signatures to be considered for debate in the Senedd.

The petition is still open and rapidly gaining signatures. You can sign it here.

Speaking on the petition, and the 20mph speed limits, Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, said:

“This is the most-signed petition in Senedd history. The people of Wales have made their wishes clear – for the 20mph speed limits to be reversed.

“They are unnecessary on all residential roads, and are very unpopular. Over 8,000 people in my constituency of Aberconwy alone have signed the petition so far.

“In 2021, 1.1 million people voted in the Senedd elections. That means that statistically, over 40% of the voters from 2021 are opposed to this law change.

“The direct financial cost of the policy will be around £33 million, and the cost to the economy would be as much as £6.4 billion over 30 years!

“It is clear that the people of Aberconwy, and Wales as a whole, are opposed to this law change, and the Welsh Government needs to urgently listen to the electorate and reverse this law”.

Mae cyflwyno'r terfyn cyflymder 20 milltir yr awr ledled Cymru yn ddiweddar, a ddaeth i rym ddydd Sul 17 Medi, eisoes yn profi’n amhoblogaidd ar y naw gyda thrigolion Cymru.

Mae deiseb ar wefan Deisebau'r Senedd, o'r enw 'Rydym am i Lywodraeth Cymru ddiddymu’r gyfraith drychinebus ynghylch y terfyn cyflymder o 20mya', wedi pasio'r garreg filltir o 425,000 o lofnodion bore 'ma.

Rhaid i ddeisebau gyrraedd 10,000 o lofnodion i'w hystyried ar gyfer dadl  yn y Senedd.

Mae'r ddeiseb yn dal ar agor ac yn prysur ennill mwy o enwau. Gallwch ei lawrlwytho yma.

Wrth sôn am y ddeiseb, a'r terfynau cyflymder o 20mya, dywedodd Janet Finch-Saunders, AS Aberconwy:

“Dyma'r ddeiseb sydd wedi ei llofnodi fwyaf yn hanes y Senedd. Mae pobl Cymru wedi gwneud eu dymuniadau yn glir - sef bod angen gwrthdroi'r terfynau cyflymder o 20mya.

“Maen nhw'n ddiangen ar bob ffordd breswyl, ac yn amhoblogaidd iawn. Mae 8,000 a mwy o bobl yn fy etholaeth i yn Aberconwy yn unig wedi llofnodi’r  ddeiseb hyd yma.

“Yn 2021, pleidleisiodd 1.1 miliwn o bobl yn etholiadau'r Senedd. Mae hynny'n golygu, yn ystadegol, bod dros 40% o beidleiswyr 2021 yn gwrthwynebu'r newid cyfreithiol hwn.

“Cost ariannol uniongyrchol y polisi fydd tua £33 miliwn, a byddai'r gost i'r economi gymaint â £6.4 biliwn dros 30 mlynedd!

“Mae'n amlwg bod pobl Aberconwy, a Chymru benbaladr, yn gwrthwynebu'r newid cyfreithiol yma, ac mae angen i Lywodraeth Cymru wrando ar frys ar yr etholwyr a gwrthdroi'r ddeddf hon”.
