Over 5,000 people have signed the petition which calls for the Welsh Government to fund the removal of quarry rocks and the restoration of sand and groynes to Llandudno North Shore.

10,000 are needed for the petition to be considered for a debate in the Welsh Parliament.

Janet Finch-Saunders MS is working with Cllr. Ian Turner and other concerned residents to help see sand restored to North Shore beach.

You can sign the petition here.

Commenting on the petition, Janet said:

“Having researched old newspaper accounts of our beloved beach, I have come across an article from 1900 which recalls how along the length of the promenade visitors were enjoying the beautiful effects of the sandcastle building competition held. Apparently, there were hundreds of children on the beach constructing forts and bridges, houses and light-houses, and even a miniature Conwy Castle, all out of sand.

“Today, most of the beach is made up of dangerous boulders.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have more sand, and see major sandcastle competitions like that I have described return?

“We are halfway to securing the 10,000 signatures required so that replacing the quarry stones with sand at one of the United Kingdom’s leading destinations can be debated by the Welsh Parliament. Please support our beach by signing online”.

Should you like to join the campaign to save the beach, you are more than welcome to attend the public meeting being held by the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy at Llandudno Town Hall, Lloyd Street, Llandudno, Wales, LL30 2UP, at 18:00pm on 7 July 2023.

ENDS

Mae dros 5,000 o bobl wedi arwyddo’r ddeiseb sy’n galw ar Lywodraeth Cymru i ariannu’r gwaith o symud creigiau chwareli ac adfer tywod a grwynau i Draeth y Gogledd Llandudno.

Mae angen 10,000 llofnod er mwyn i’r ddeiseb gael ei hystyried ar gyfer dadl yn y Senedd.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS yn gweithio gyda’r Cynghorydd Ian Turner a thrigolion pryderus eraill i helpu i weld tywod yn cael ei adfer ar Draeth y Gogledd.

Gallwch arwyddo’r ddeiseb yma.

Wrth sôn am y ddeiseb, dywedodd Janet:

"Ar ôl ymchwilio i straeon mewn hen bapurau newydd am ein traeth annwyl, rwyf wedi dod ar draws erthygl o 1900 sy’n sôn am sut roedd ymwelwyr ar hyd y promenâd yn mwynhau effeithiau hardd y gystadleuaeth adeiladu cestyll tywod a gynhaliwyd. Yn ôl pob tebyg, roedd cannoedd o blant ar y traeth yn adeiladu caerau a phontydd, tai a goleudai, a hyd yn oed fersiwn fach o Gastell Conwy, i gyd gyda thywod.

"Heddiw, mae’r rhan fwyaf o’r traeth wedi’i wneud o glogfeini peryglus. Oni fyddai’n hyfryd cael mwy o dywod, a gweld cystadlaethau cestyll tywod mawr fel yr un a ddisgrifiais yn dychwelyd?

"Rydyn ni hanner ffordd i sicrhau’r 10,000 o lofnodion sydd eu hangen er mwyn i’r Senedd drafod dychwelyd tywod yn lle’r creigiau chwarel yn un o brif gyrchfannau’r Deyrnas Unedig. Cefnogwch ein traeth drwy arwyddo ar-lein".

Os hoffech chi ymuno â’r ymgyrch i achub y traeth, mae croeso i chi ddod i’r cyfarfod cyhoeddus sy’n cael ei gynnal gan Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy yn Neuadd y Dref Llandudno, Stryd Lloyd, Llandudno, Cymru, LL30 2UP, am 18:00 ar 7 Gorffennaf 2023.
