Apology from Welsh Government for A470 Promise / Ymddiheuriad gan Lywodraeth Cymru ynghylch Addewid yr A470

Maenan

Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has received a letter from Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change, in which he apologises for advising that the section of the A470 between Glan Conwy and Betws y Coed will fall under the North Wales Transport Commission.

This means that the Welsh Government have made a U-turn on both the WelTAG study and North Wales Transport Commission, leaving residents with little hope that any improvement will be made to the A470 between Glan Conwy and Betws y Coed.

This is the latest development in the work Janet is undertaking with the community so to try and secure improvements to the key section of trunk road, especially the bad Maenan bends.

A Freedom of Information Request to North Wales Police has disclosed that during the last 10 years, in the area within 1 mile either side of LL26 0YN (Erw Glas), there have been 4 ‘slight collisions’, 5 ‘serious collisions’, 17 ‘damage only’ collisions, and 27 ‘non reportable’ collisions. That is a total of 53 collisions, which shines a bright light on the serious problems residents and all road users are facing.

Commenting on the apology issued by the Deputy Minister, Janet said:

“Action on the A470 in Aberconwy is what we want and need, not an apology from the Deputy Minister.

“We were promised a WelTAG review, and then consideration by the North Wales Transport Commission, but are actually being left with nothing.

“Adding to my frustration is the fact that the Deputy Minister has advised that any future study on the corridor will be considered once the North Wales Transport Commission’s advice has been received later this year. I think that any reasonable person would conclude that the Commission’s advice is very unlikely to have any recommendations about the road between Glan Conwy and Betws y Coed, for the simple reason that a decision has been made that they are not going to be considering it!

“I have written to the Deputy Minister again, urging him to keep to previous promises, especially bearing in mind that there have been 53 collisions during the last decade on a small section of the Aberconwy A470 alone.

“The Deputy Minister has a genuinely good opportunity to improve the trunk road, but is choosing a route that causes delays to actual action and no reduction to the risk of more accidents occurring”.

ENDS

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi derbyn llythyr gan Lee Waters AS, y Dirprwy Weinidog Newid Hinsawdd, yn ymddiheuro am gynghori y bydd y rhan o'r A470 rhwng Glan Conwy a

Betws-y-coed yn dod o dan Gomisiwn Trafnidiaeth Gogledd Cymru.

Golyga hyn fod Llywodraeth Cymru wedi gwneud tro pedol ar yr astudiaeth Arweiniad ar Arfarnu Trafnidiaeth Cymru a Chomisiwn Trafnidiaeth Gogledd Cymru, gan adael trigolion heb fawr o obaith y bydd unrhyw welliant yn cael ei wneud i'r A470 rhwng Glan Conwy a Betws-y-coed.

Dyma'r datblygiad diweddaraf yn y gwaith y mae Janet yn ei wneud gyda’r gymuned i geisio sicrhau gwelliannau i'r rhan allweddol o’r gefnffordd, yn enwedig y troadau peryglus ym Maenan.

Mae Cais Rhyddid Gwybodaeth i Heddlu Gogledd Cymru wedi datgelu bod yr ardal o fewn 1 milltir naill ochr i LL26 0YN (Erw Glas), yn ystod y 10 mlynedd diwethaf, wedi gweld 4 gwrthdrawiad 'bach', 5 'gwrthdrawiad difrifol', 17 gwrthdrawiad 'difrod yn unig', a 27 gwrthdrawiad ‘na ellir eu hadrodd'. Mae hynny'n gyfanswm o 53 gwrthdrawiad, sy'n amlygu’r problemau difrifol y mae trigolion a holl ddefnyddwyr y ffordd yn eu hwynebu.

Wrth sôn am yr ymddiheuriad a gyhoeddwyd gan y Dirprwy Weinidog, dywedodd Janet:

"Rydyn ni eisiau ac angen gweld gweithredu ar yr A470 yn Aberconwy, nid ymddiheuriad gan y Dirprwy Weinidog.

"Fe gawsom addewid o adolygiad Arweiniad ar Arfarnu Trafnidiaeth Cymru, ac yna ystyriaeth gan Gomisiwn Trafnidiaeth Gogledd Cymru, ond maen nhw mewn gwirionedd yn cael eu gadael heb ddim.

"Mae'r ffaith bod y Dirprwy Weinidog wedi dweud y bydd unrhyw astudiaeth yn y coridor yn y dyfodol yn cael ei ystyried wedi i gyngor Comisiwn Trafnidiaeth Gogledd Cymru gael ei dderbyn yn ddiweddarach eleni yn ychwanegu at fy rhwystredigaeth. Rwy'n meddwl y byddai unrhyw berson rhesymol yn dod i'r casgliad bod cyngor y Comisiwn yn annhebygol iawn o gynnig unrhyw argymhellion am y ffordd rhwng Glan Conwy a Betws-y-coed, am y rheswm syml fod penderfyniad wedi ei wneud nad ydyn nhw'n mynd i’w ystyried!

"Rydw i wedi ysgrifennu at y Dirprwy Weinidog eto, yn ei annog i gadw at addewidion blaenorol, yn enwedig gan gofio y bu 53 gwrthdrawiad yn ystod y degawd diwethaf ar ran fechan o’r A470 yn Aberconwy yn unig.

"Mae gan y Dirprwy Weinidog gyfle gwirioneddol dda i wella'r gefnffordd, ond mae'n dewis llwybr sy'n achosi oedi i weithredu go iawn heb leihau’r risg o fwy o ddamweiniau yn y dyfodol".
