Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, has welcomed the fact that Transport for Wales have advised that they are working on plans for a new Liverpool to Llandudno service.
This news comes in response to the Member for Aberconwy writing to the Welsh Government so to ask if they would introduce new direct services from Llandudno.
Responding to Janet Finch-Saunders MS, Lee Waters MS, Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Welsh Government, stated:
“There are currently no plans to deliver a direct service between Llandudno and Cardiff. Transport for Wales make every effort to ensure good connections at Llandudno Junction to direct services to Cardiff and other destinations. They are also working on the plans for the new Liverpool to Llandudno service”.
Commenting on the fact that plans are being drawn to increase the number of direct rail destinations from Llandudno, Janet said:
“Llandudno is one of the United Kingdom’s leading tourist destinations, seeing around 6.8 million visitors annually.
“People travel here from all over the world, but we do owe a particular thanks to residents of North West England. I know that many love coming to our town to relax.
“To help ensure that more can travel via public transport to Llandudno, it is common sense to increase the number of direct rail destinations, such as by adding Liverpool.
“This will also be of major benefit to constituents who currently have to change in Chester if they want to go shopping in the so-called capital of North Wales!
“Whilst I am hopeful that we can secure a direct connection to the regional capital, it is a shame that the Welsh Government have no plans to link the Welsh capital to Llandudno”.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy, wedi croesawu'r ffaith bod Trafnidiaeth Cymru wedi dweud eu bod yn gweithio ar gynlluniau ar gyfer gwasanaeth newydd o Lerpwl i Landudno.
Daw'r newyddion hyn mewn ymateb i'r Aelod dros Aberconwy yn ysgrifennu at Lywodraeth Cymru yn holi a fydden nhw'n cyflwyno gwasanaethau uniongyrchol newydd o Landudno.
Yn ymateb i Janet Finch-Saunders AS, dywedodd Lee Waters AS, Dirprwy Weinidog Newid Hinsawdd, Llywodraeth Cymru:
"Does dim cynlluniau ar hyn o bryd i ddarparu gwasanaeth uniongyrchol rhwng Llandudno a Chaerdydd. Mae Trafnidiaeth Cymru yn gwneud pob ymdrech i sicrhau cysylltiadau da yng Nghyffordd Llandudno i gyfeirio gwasanaethau i Gaerdydd a chyrchfannau eraill. Maen nhw hefyd yn gweithio ar y cynlluniau ar gyfer y gwasanaeth newydd rhwng Lerpwl a Llandudno".
Wrth sôn am y ffaith bod cynlluniau'n cael eu paratoi i gynyddu nifer y cyrchfannau rheilffordd uniongyrchol o Landudno, dywedodd Janet:
Llandudno yw un o brif gyrchfannau twristiaeth y Deyrnas Unedig, ac mae’n denu tua 6.8 miliwn o ymwelwyr bob blwyddyn.
"Mae pobl yn teithio yma o bob rhan o'r byd, ond mae angen diolch yn arbennig i drigolion Gogledd Orllewin Lloegr. Rwy’n gwybod bod llawer wrth eu bodd yn dod i'n tref ni i ymlacio.
"Er mwyn helpu i sicrhau bod mwy yn gallu teithio ar drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus i Landudno, mae'n synnwyr cyffredin cynyddu nifer y cyrchfannau rheilffordd uniongyrchol, er enghraifft, trwy ychwanegu Lerpwl.
"Bydd hyn hefyd o fudd mawr i etholwyr sy'n gorfod newid yng Nghaer ar hyn o bryd os ydyn nhw am fynd i siopa ym mhrifddinas honedig Gogledd Cymru!
"Er fy mod yn obeithiol y gallwn sicrhau cysylltiad uniongyrchol â'r brifddinas ranbarthol, mae'n drueni nad oes gan Lywodraeth Cymru gynlluniau i gysylltu prifddinas Cymru â Llandudno".
