Janet Finch-Saunders MS has welcomed the UK Government’s decision to extend cost-of-living support to millions of households.
The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy praised the Chancellor’s decision to extend the Energy Price Guarantee for a further three months.
Typical household energy bills in Britain had been due to rise to £3,000 a year from April, but instead will be kept at £2,500 until the end of June.
Speaking today, Janet said:
“I am delighted by this announcement of support by the Chancellor.
“This additional support, along with reforms to prepayment charges, will come as a relief to a many of my constituents across Aberconwy, who were faced with the prospect of ever-increasing bills.
“The decision to continue to cap average household energy costs at £2,500 is proof of the UK Government’s commitment to tackling the cost-of-living crisis.
“As the Chancellor himself has said, ‘this temporary change will bridge the gap and ease the pressure on families, while also helping to lower inflation too’.
“Here in Wales, it is now vital that the Welsh Labour Government steps up and plays their part in supporting struggling households”.

Fe wnaeth yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy ganmol penderfyniad y Canghellor i ymestyn y Warant Pris Ynni am dri mis arall.
Roedd biliau ynni cartref nodweddiadol ym Mhrydain i fod i godi i £3,000 y flwyddyn o fis Ebrill, ond yn hytrach fe fyddant yn aros yn £2,500 tan ddiwedd mis Mehefin.
Wrth siarad heddiw, dywedodd Janet:
"Rwy'n falch iawn o'r cyhoeddiad hwn o gymorth gan y Canghellor.
"Bydd y cymorth ychwanegol, ynghyd â diwygiadau i daliadau rhagdalu, yn rhyddhad i nifer o'm hetholwyr ledled Aberconwy, a oedd yn wynebu'r posibilrwydd y byddai eu biliau’n cynyddu o hyd.
"Mae'r penderfyniad i barhau i roi cap o £2,500 ar gostau ynni cyfartalog aelwydydd tan fis Mehefin yn brawf o ymrwymiad Llywodraeth y DU i fynd i'r afael â'r argyfwng costau byw.
"Fel mae'r Canghellor ei hun wedi ei ddweud, bydd y newid dros dro hwn yn pontio'r bwlch ac yn ysgafnhau'r pwysau ar deuluoedd, gan helpu i ostwng chwyddiant hefyd.
"Yma yng Nghymru, mae'n hanfodol nawr bod Llywodraeth Lafur Cymru yn camu i'r adwy ac yn chwarae eu rhan i gynorthwyo cartrefi sy'n sy’n ei chael hi’n anodd cael deupen llinyn ynghyd".
