Welsh Government Challenged Over End of T19 Service

Janet Finch-Saunders MS has taken the Welsh Government to task for their neglect of the T19 Service.

The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy questioned Lesley Griffiths MS, the Minister for North Wales, on the need to ensure that vulnerable residents now have access to travel options.

Despite over 700 signing the Member’s petition to save the T19 between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog, and Janet sending several letters to Conwy and Gwynedd outlining different solutions, the last Llew Jones bus ran on Saturday.

Speaking today in the Senedd, Janet said:

“In the Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru Co-operation agreement, Labour made a clear promise that they would ask Transport for Wales to work with local authorities in North West Wales and the Welsh Government to develop plans for an integrated transport system.

“Rather than see progress, and despite Gwynedd Council claiming to have a close working relationship Welsh Government officials and TfW in relation to public transport, Conwy, Gwynedd, and Welsh Government have completely failed to deliver for our communities.

“So severe is the situation that some students are now having to rely on private transport to get from the Blaenau Ffestiniog area to school and college in Conwy, and there are employees that cannot get to work.

“The Welsh Government must urgently work with Gwynedd and Conwy to address the serious problems caused by the termination of the T19, such as by extending the area served by the area covered by the Fflecsi bus”.
