After sending two urgent letters to Conwy County Borough Council in an effort to save the T19 bus service between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog, Janet Finch-Saunders MS has cautiously welcomed the response received from Cllr Charlie McCoubrey, Leader of the Council, which states:
The update was received in response to the second letter issued by the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, in which she highlighted that the termination could lead to students having to drop out of Llandrillo College, and that the Local Authority should be taking a lead on the negotiations to save the service because she has seen correspondence from one of Conwy’s employees stating “Just to confirm that Conwy will not continue to subsidise the Sunday T19 service. Can this therefore finish in line with the withdrawal of the T19 on the 11th Feb please.”
Commenting on her work with the community to try and save the T19 service, Janet said:
“I cautiously welcome the fact that we seem to have got Conwy County Borough Council to shift from the position of stopping a subsidy, to exploring options.
“Given the serious impact the termination of the service would have on students attending Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy and Coleg Llandrillo, and the connectivity of rural communities, there is no doubt that the Conwy First/Labour/Plaid Cymru coalition should be working with Llew Jones to deliver a solution, not stopping financial support.
“At the end of yesterday, 444 (99.3%) of the respondents to my survey had expressed their wish for the T19 to continue, and 422 (94.4%) a wish to see the Welsh Government, Conwy Council, and Gwynedd Council cooperate to subsidise the service with taxpayers money.
“The will of the people is abundantly clear and the impact of the situation on the length of the County unquestionable, so I have asked that a Conwy Cabinet meeting be called urgently so to resolve the matter.”
