Janet Finch-Saunders MS has urged local councils and the Welsh Government to do everything possible to save the T19 bus service between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy highlighted the results of a local survey she has conducted, indicating that an overwhelming majority of residents wish the service to continue.

Llew Jones has explained that termination is being pursued because the huge reduction in passengers since the COVID-19 pandemic, and no indication that the numbers will recover any further, has made the T19 increasingly financially unviable.

A survey conducted by the Member found that 99% of respondents wish for the T19 to continue, and 96% wish to see the Welsh Government, Conwy Council, and Gwynedd Council cooperate to subsidise the service with taxpayers’ money.

Commenting on the results, Janet said:

“The termination of the T19 bus service between Llandudno and Blaenau Ffestiniog is a serious concern for so many local residents.

“The overwhelming response to the survey I conducted on the issue clearly shows the strength of feeling in these communities.

“Given this strong response, and my belief that the Welsh Government, Conwy and Gwynedd councils should support rural communities and improve our public transport system, I have sent an urgent letter to the Leader of Conwy Council.

“Copies have also been sent to the Leader of Gwynedd Council, and the Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Welsh Government.

“I will be sure to continue updating all concerned residents on any future developments”.

The survey remains open on Janet’s website.

Mae Janet Finch-Saunders AS wedi annog cynghorau lleol a Llywodraeth Cymru i wneud popeth posibl i achub gwasanaeth bws T19 rhwng Llandudno a       Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Cyfeiriodd yr Aelod o Senedd Cymru dros Aberconwy at ganlyniadau arolwg lleol a gynhaliwyd ganddi, sy'n dangos bod mwyafrif llethol o'r trigolion am weld y gwasanaeth yn parhau.

Dywed cwmni Llew Jones eu bod am ddod â'r gwasanaeth i ben oherwydd y gostyngiad enfawr yn nifer y teithwyr ers pandemig COVID-19, ac nad oes arwyddion y bydd y niferoedd yn dychwelyd fel cynt, sy'n golygu bod gwasanaeth T19 yn fwyfwy anhyfyw yn ariannol.

Dangosodd arolwg yr Aelod o'r Senedd fod 99% o'r rhai a ymatebodd yn dymuno i'r T19 barhau, a 96% am weld Llywodraeth Cymru, Cyngor Conwy, a Chyngor Gwynedd yn cydweithredu i sybsideiddio'r gwasanaeth gydag arian trethdalwyr.

Wrth sôn am y canlyniadau, dywedodd Janet:

“Mae terfynu'r gwasanaeth bws T19 rhwng Llandudno a Blaenau Ffestiniog yn bryder difrifol i gynifer o drigolion lleol.

“Mae'r ymateb llethol i'r arolwg a gynhaliais yn dangos yn glir pa mor gryf yw teimladau'r cymunedau hyn.

“O gofio'r fath ymateb felly, a'r ffaith fy mod i'n credu y dylai Llywodraeth Cymru a chynghorau siroedd Conwy a Gwynedd gefnogi cymunedau gwledig a gwella ein system drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus, rwyf wedi anfon llythyr brys at Arweinydd Cyngor Conwy.

“Mae copïau wedi’u hanfon at Arweinydd Cyngor Gwynedd a Dirprwy Weinidog Newid Hinsawdd Llywodraeth Cymru hefyd.

“Byddaf yn siŵr o rannu unrhyw fanylion diweddaraf i’r holl drigolion pryderus”.

Mae'r arolwg yn parhau ar agor ar wefan Janet.
