Janet Finch-Saunders MS has welcomed proposals for new dental services for the Aberconwy constituency.
Having raised concerns, the Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy received an update from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board regarding dental services in the area.
The Health Board is in the final stages of approval for a procurement exercise for NHS dental services in the area.
According to the Health Board, the proposals have been sent to the Welsh Government, and are currently waiting for the Minister to formally note them by a reply letter. Once this has been received, the tendering process will start.
Commenting on the news, Janet said:
“I am passing on this important information so that residents are aware of the welcome news that dental service provision in Aberconwy is planned to increase.
“As the Health Board notes, the procurement will be for additional activity in existing practices or for set up of new practices, and has a total combined value of £1.3m p.a. that is recurrent funding.
“The procurement exercise identifies the Health Board’s priority areas of need for access which include a number of communities within the Aberconwy constituency, including Conwy, Betws y Coed, and Llandudno.
“These plans will come as a great relief to so many people struggling with access to dental services.
“BCUHB, along with the Welsh Government, must now ensure that these plans come to fruition.”

Ar ôl rhannu ei phryderon, cafodd yr Aelod o’r Senedd dros Aberconwy ddiweddariad gan Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr ynglŷn â gwasanaethau deintyddol yn yr ardal.
Mae'r Bwrdd Iechyd yng nghamau olaf y broses o gymeradwyo ymarfer caffael ar gyfer gwasanaethau deintyddol y GIG yn yr ardal.
Yn ôl y Bwrdd Iechyd, mae'r cynigion wedi'u hanfon at Lywodraeth Cymru, ac maen nhw’n aros i'r Gweinidog eu nodi'n ffurfiol trwy lythyr ymateb ar hyn o bryd. Ar ôl derbyn y llythyr hwn, bydd y broses dendro yn dechrau.
Wrth sôn am y newyddion, dywedodd Janet:
"Rwy’n rhannu’r wybodaeth bwysig hon fel bod trigolion yn ymwybodol o'r newyddion da bod bwriad i gynyddu’r ddarpariaeth gwasanaethau deintyddol yn Aberconwy.
"Fel y dywedodd y Bwrdd Iechyd, bydd y caffael ar gyfer gweithgarwch ychwanegol mewn deintyddfeydd sy'n bodoli eisoes neu ar gyfer sefydlu deintyddfeydd newydd, ac mae ganddo werth cyfunol o £1.3m y flwyddyn, sy’n gyllid cylchol.
Mae'r ymarfer caffael yn nodi ardaloedd sy’n flaenoriaeth i’r Bwrdd Iechyd o ran mynediad i ddeintydd, sy'n cynnwys nifer o gymunedau yn etholaeth Aberconwy, gan gynnwys Conwy, Betws-y-coed, a Llandudno.
"Bydd y cynlluniau hyn yn rhyddhad mawr i gymaint o bobl sy'n cael trafferth cael mynediad at wasanaethau deintyddol.
"Rhaid i BIPBC, ynghyd â Llywodraeth Cymru, sicrhau’n awr bod y cynlluniau hyn yn dwyn ffrwyth."
